Compared to GTJ
- Kennard is a much, much better shooter off the dribble
- Kennard is a much better creator and ball handler
- Kennard is a bit better at C&S threes
- Kennard is a much worse defender. I mean really, it's just not close

For a team thinking about it's playoff rotation, I think they are both "JAGs" -- if they're in your top 8 in a conference semi-finals series, you're furiously looking for an upgrade next off-season

Trent was repeatedly getting benched for his defense and the only "defense" he offers is his penchant for gambling for steals. I don't think he's meaningfully better than Kennard at that end. So you are much better off with the much better offensive player.

And you can absolutely steal playoff minutes with Kennard against 2nd units with good defenders around him. You could with Trent too of course, but again why would anyone prefer the worse option?

Other than last year on a broken Grizzlies team he's always been a positive player. Trent? Only managed that one season in his entire career.

There really isn't an argument for Trent other than scoring volume which we know in 2024 isn't worth much of anything.

We'll have to agree to disagree. Having watched each of them for at least 6,000 minutes played, I ain't changing my mind, and stats from different contexts/teams won't really change my mind.

Toronto Out: Gary Trent Jr [S&T, 3/41], 2026 and 2027 TOR 2nd
Toronto In: TPE [~13 Million], 2025 TOR 2nd

Dallas adds a smaller wing who can make above-the-break 3's, isn't a negative defensively and thrives in a lower-usage environment

Detroit takes on THJ for 2 future 2nds

Toronto gets a good 2nd back and generates a TPE for 2 future 2nds

Just being a little picky but it's difficult for me to see a scenario where GTJ is signing a 3/40, that's the NTMLE and a big pay cut. If he would sign for that price, Masai would just keep him - I would hope so anyways. .

Looks like GTJ is going to be signing for even LESS than the NTMLE

Yeah, Starboy's ego certainly priced himself out. Raptors were rumored to have offered 15, which I thought was about right when considering Monk/Allen but not surprised he turned that down - there was a lot of chatter about his camp looking for 25 so I'm happy Raptors moved on.

Rumors now are a 1 year deal in NY or Philly - not sure how that happens though.

NYK -- I just can't imagine Thibs playing him and they have a ton of guys who can play SG and are better

PHI -- maybe? They need the depth, but he's not a good fit for the playoffs and I'm not sure how he and Nurse got along

Trent should be looking at Denver IMO. Sign at the minimum and rehab his value. Low risk for DEN. I suspect he'd look great in a heliocentric offence where he doesn't have responsibility for creating or handling the ball and can just concentrate on movement and C&S threes of the Jokic/Murray PnR game
