Indiana welcomes Julius Randle to the mix as GM D. Bills ("please, call me Dick" he said to the media during the AM media call) continues to revamp their roster following a disappointing 2023-24 campaign.

Randle, an All NBA PF, joins All Star Jaylen Brown as apart of a high powered one two punch seeking to reverse Indiana's recent fortunes. The team has already announced that their annual "Say No to Pornography and Meth" night, sponsored by the local religious community here in Indiana, will be replaced by Julius Randle bobble head night. When asked about the new direction that he is taking the team, the GM stated that he "likes the way the bobble head doll shakes, and fans will too."

A couple of thoughts on second rounders. I've seen arguments for both sides.

Jalen Pickett was the #32 pick in the 2023 draft. He made $1,708,143 last year which is roughly 1.26% of the $136M salary cap. 1.26% of our $1060 salary cap is 13.4, which is basically his BAF salary. The money we pay our second rounders is considerably less overall than what the NBA does considering a $1 player was equivalent to $128,301 NBA salary, well below the league minimum. So salaries are in line or below what an NBA second rounder makes.

As for roster spots, last year 11 second round picks went the year on the EL. 12 made it onto an active roster. That's 23/30 second rounders who survived the year, 11 who didn't take up a roster spot or even lose a year of service for the drafting team.

People who don't value seconds trade them to teams who do. It's a lottery ticket and if you hit on a pick you get a cheap player worth considerably less than 2% of the cap for five years. I do get that it is not for everyone and some teams will value it more than others.

There will be an opportunity to submit rule changes between the draft and free agency. I have no problem taking a potential rule change to the board if someone submits one. Personally, I would not back changing the salary structure that has been in place for seven seasons and is in line or below, the real NBA. If teams want to add an additional roster spot for second rounders, that would be something I would consider.

An additional roster spot or two only for 2nds would be the most realistic. Half the 2nd rounders get selected based on agreeing to start off on a two-way contract, with the promise of a real contract if they perform well.

Scottie Barnes and the Toronto Raptors have agreed to a five-year maximum contract worth up to $270 million if he qualifies for the Rose rule with an All-NBA selection during the 24-25 season. The Rose rule allows players signing a designated rookie extension to receive 30 percent of the cap in Year 1. If Barnes doesn't qualify, his five-year max will be worth approximately $225 million over five seasons.
