Brooklyn | Chicago | Atlanta: Claxton Contingency Plan
If Claxton leaves Brooklyn in free agency I propose the following move
Brooklyn in: Nikola Vucevic (into the Dinwiddie TPE)
Chicago in: Clint Capella
Atlanta in: 2025 PDX 1st (lotto protected through 2028)
Nets get a serviceable center
Bulls get Capela who I think fits better with their team
Atlanta gets some big cap savings and a potential future pick, also this assumes they draft a center in the draft (whether Sarr or Clingan)

I don't see the nets being interested in this at all. Atlanta will be thrilled to get that 1st. This is simmons last year, they are not going to want Vuc's 20 mill on the books next year. I think they would get into the Allen sweepstakes and try to make up for the mistake in letting him go.

I don't see Atlanta getting a pick and total cap relief for Capela and not sure Chicago should get to dump Vuc for free, but I definitely know this is not good for the Nets who overpay for Vuc and cut into next year's cap space. Who cares what pick they give up this next year. That's a sunk cost. Don't throw good money after bad.

Isn't the more plausible option having the Nets just take Capella themselves?

Doesn't fit in the TPE, but Vuc does. I'm assuming that's the genesis of this.

Vuc is a negative, CHi is not going to get a get out of jail free card for him

Re: Brooklyn | Chicago | Atlanta: Claxton Contingency Plan
would it change perceptions if the pick went to Brooklyn?
Atlanta gets the sole benefit of the cap relief, Nets gets a potential future first for Vuc? Or does it still not solve the bigger priority for Brooklyn which would be to have that 2025 cap space?

2025 is supposed to be a strong draft and if PHOX runs it back they're still a strong contender to at least make the playoffs. Decent chance that pick conveys next year. I think it's more than BRK is giving up for either Capela or Vucevic.

Is it possible to S&T Claxton for Murray? If Hawks take Risacher/Sarr as a forward, then Claxton, Sarr, Johnson make a good young frontline.
Nets get a PG to run with Bridges/Johnson.

It does seem like a very small gift the the Bulls. Capela is expiring so what's one year of him really worth? They won't get far in the playoffs anyway.
But let's say BRK gets the message that they aren't going to find a chump to take $40M of Ben Simmons off their hands. If they finally like an offer for Bridges they aren't going to make a big step up. They aren't going to win much this year and probably not the next, so why not have Vucevic, negative or not you contract/rating experts, and let him just hang around waiting to expire after year two when you're looking to have improved enough.

Not trading Simmons give Nets the cap space to sign one or even two max free agents like Mitchell or Lauri next season while keeping all of their future picks.
They are not giving up a first rounder and cap space for a negative asset.

Assuming any max free agent wants to go to Brooklyn to play with an empty roster for fans who can't afford Knicks tickets, I guess.

Kyrie and KD seemed to like the idea recently.
