On paper that deal looks great. I'm not convinced Timelord can ever play more than 40 games a year. Then again, I'd like a Portland deal more if Brogdon were part of the return (and his injury issues).

But does Portland really need any of our guys? Feels like a 3rd team needed.

I don’t think we are good trade partners.

POR wants FRP.

No problem. No one's is talking Rob Williams bum knee off your hands.

Would you move Simons for #3?

I would move Simons for a lot less than that.

Kings definitely seem like they could do something rash.

Fox’s future looms in the background too, as league sources say the All-Star guard has decided not to sign an extension this year, in part, because he wants to see how the roster takes shape for the long-haul. Fox, who has two seasons left on his current deal, wants to win at the highest level and could also qualify for a significantly larger max if he makes All-NBA.

The Kings have been close on deals in the past but ultimately come up empty-handed. Caruso is the latest. Pascal Siakam might be the most significant. The Kings were close to a Siakam deal at the past trade deadline, but they ultimately lost out to Indiana when the Pacers paired the two-time All-Star with former King Tyrese Haliburton en route to an Eastern Conference finals run.

The move would have been a calculated risk for the Kings, as there were strong signs at the time Siakam would not re-sign with Sacramento if he had come. Still, league sources say there is some lingering regret internally about the what-might-have-been-move and the question of whether the Kings could have convinced Siakam to stay.

As pressure rises to advance further in the playoffs, everyone is getting more expensive. Sabonis’ contract rises from $29.3 million to $40-plus million for the next four years, Murray is a summer away from extension eligibility and Fox, desiring an aggressive win-now approach, eventually has a lucrative decision to make. The entire equation makes the Kings a team to watch entering transaction season in the NBA.

Combining some rumors; does this framework make any sense?

-Grizzlies potentially looking to use Smart & #9 to move up for Clingan
-Bucks potentially looking for more versatility and could shop Brook
-Rockets looking for win now pieces and still value Brook after their pursuit last year

Grizzlies out: Smart, #9
Grizzlies In: Steven Adams, Jae'sean Tate, #3 (Clingan)

Rockets out: Tari Eason, Steven Adams, Jae'sean Tate, #3, #44
Rockets In: Brook, #9, #23

Bucks Out: Brook, #23
Bucks In: Smart, Eason, #44

Pat makes about 1.6m less than Thybulle, so we'd have to add a player, which wouldn't have to be aggregated as Pat for Thybulle works as an even up trade and Portland could take an additional player in on a trade exception. Any small contract we have (incl. Livingston or AJJ) would work, although my gut says Pat and MarJon is the formula.

Thybulle/Robert Williams

for

Pat/Portis/Marjon

Huh. I hate it.

But I don't think there's any chance Williams will ever be able to stay healthy.

Although there's a few guys that will be available that I'll be fine with, I think I've decided the best move with #23 (barring a trade for a clear upgrade to the starting line-up) would be to kick the can down the road and trade it for a lottery protected 1st rounder next year. Late first rounder in next year's stronger draft will be better that #23 in this year's, plus it opens up more trade flexibility over the next 12 months.

My guess is a lot of teams may think the same. Tough to find a taker.

Maybe the Bucks pull Dorian Finney-Smith using #23.

The Nets have been active in attempts to try to trade into this week’s draft, according to league sources, as Brooklyn does not currently own a selection. The Nets have called front offices with selections as early as the 20s, sources said, as many teams appear to be open for business to move out of the first entirely, down a flew slots or into the second round.

Bucks save $4 million. I'd use #49 on anyone who falls, and #50 on Comche if he'll sign a 2 year 2 way. Jalen Smith fits the idea of a more versatile defender. I'm assuming Brook gets traded.

I was inspired for this deal when I saw ESPNs latest mock had Nikola Djurisic at #49. I'd consider him at #33.

Jalen Smith shot the 3 unreal this year.

Vivek needs to go out and overpay for Middleton to prove to De’Aaron that he’s committed to winning.

Agree. 8.5 ppg playing full time. He's just an offense zero. Nice player before he signed that big extension. In the 2 years since the extension, he's been replacement level. $30.3 million still owed him, including his player option.

I couldn't think of a worse move. The last 2 years he's been Shaq Harrison, and Harrison isn't in the league.

I keep coming back to Bobby for one of Vezenkov, Mitchel, or Duarte and 13. It gets us under the 2nd apron, we can package up to 3 firsts plus 33, and now aggregate salaries in a trade. I would do that trade if its on the table and then take Ware at 13 who we apparently like, try to flip Pat and 23 for someone like Ayo, and depending on who is there at 33, either take someone who fell or trade out and get future 2nds.

Might be worse than the Giddey deal. The Barnes and Heurter contracts are ugly. Barnes is washed. Dude played PF full-time a got just 3 rpg. A tick above replacement level, for $18 million a year.

Just the idea of trading Middleton, one of the games top playoff dominators, for Heurter, one of the games biggest playoff chokers, is bizarre for a team that's championship or bust.

I think we can talk him into putting Keegan Murray into the deal.
