I sincerely hope you kept this same energy for Jason Kidd, the coach of the Western champions Mavericks.

Jason Kidd, coach of the Western champion Mavericks, has assistant coaching experience. You’re thinking of Jason Kidd, voted worst Bucks coach in 30 years by Realgm Bucks fans

Redick might be good 3 teams from now too

Bottom line, he got his first HC opportunity without any assistant coaching experience too, where was the outrage then? Where was the outrage when Derek Fisher got hired? Where was the outrage when Mark Jackson got hired?

I mean I know the answers to these questions but respecting the forum rules, I’ll keep that to myself.

This is no different than work. They don't hire the ones that are most qualified.

A part of me is now starting to wonder could this actually work out well. I’m a fan of JJ so I wouldn’t mind if he succeeds even with how incompetent Buss/Pelinka are. I’m very curious to see who his assistants will be. I also continue to state that one underrated part in all of this is I’m sure JJ will be getting advice from Coach K and I’m actually surprised the brain dead media haven’t thought to get any comments from him since this all started. That would give us some insight to if he saw anything early that he thought JJ could possibly be a coach

My stance hasn't changed that I believe he will be a good coach, but hey, if you think the Lakers are going to win the title you might be delusional.
IF LeBron and AD stay healthy again, and that's a big if, they might make the play in and get lucky. Unfortunately for JJ I think his best hope of a long career with the Lakers is for injuries to hit LeBron and AD early on so the expectations are lower.

He can leverage the hell out of this in terms of his career, fame, and opportunities. Great job by JJ, he's been fighting the odds his entire career. From a life stand point it would be great if he could leverage this and get into Hollywood and take off from there.

Newsflash to so many of you, being an nba head coach is hard, many of them fail several times.

Even the ones with assistant experience fail at spectacular rates. Some of you act like being an assistant is some guarantee of nba coaching potential. Assistants that promote fail ALL the time. Gotta get over this idea that hiring some assistant guaranteed anything.

Coming out of this press conference it feels like JJ has this cockiness to him that I haven't seen from a brand new Lebron James coach. For a guy who didn't speak to LBJ about the position - he looks and sounds very confident.

Have a feeling LBJ & JJ will be running the Lakers like we have never seen before.

If guess what sold me on JJ was that vets like Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson love him and highly respect him. He walks amongst different circles and is respected by all. That goes a long way in the locker room. I think he’s going to be good

I love All the Smoke podcast and as a Warrior fan I liked both Matt Barnes & Stephen Jackson, but I don't hold their too high. That's just me though - part of it is who they've spoken out against and who they've sided with.

I personally think we shouldnt go guys that are kinda his peers like Rondo because they might clash and divide the team with who they side with, think thats part of the reason why Handy was let go u can tell he was undermining Ham a lil bit. Scott Brooks as the lead seems ideal as hes pretty agreeable and still knows his stuff (kd loved him)

Watching majority of the press conference... Reddick is going to be good for any NBA team is my impression. Too bad it's for the Lakers.

Talking on your own podcast or with your mates, you can do what you like.

I miss the days of professional behaviour when you are representing your employer (Lakers AND the NBA) and talking to listeners that you know will contain children.
The stupid argument that kids will hear it anyway it pathetic. They should hear a professional speaking that shows that those words are okay to use when your old enough to determine the right situation, which is not at a press conference.

I swear/cuss like a trooper when the situation suits, but not when I'm at work or in a meeting or at the shops being served by a staff member etc.

I miss the David Stern days of the NBA's expectations of professionalism.

Did anyone ask him why, in his opinion, he can coach better without any experience than other coaches who have been assistant coaches for years waiting for their chance?

I mean you miss the professionalism. I miss the days when people were more introspective and would say things like, "I am not ready to coach. I need to go out and learn the craft first." It would not be fair to the players I coach or myself to enter the coaching profession unprepared.

Well, that is just me. People have no shame now I mean what would the player JJ Redick think of the coach JJ Redick? Most likely, he would laugh in his face. You believe that you can enter the league and coach in this league as a former player. Really?

I agree with that as well....

Nothing to do with my post on cussing/swearing though.

It won't be long until the media pile onto JJ after a few losses.

Unfortunately, JJ always thinks he's the smartest guy in the room. That's not to diminish his knowledge or ability, he is obviously knowledgeable, but in his media role, he was quick to belittle other's opinions that differ from his.

Hmm, you mean, kinda like Phil Jackson and Popovich? They sort of act like that also… and it worked out for them I’d say.

I’m with some others here who actually think JJ is smart enough and has the guts to “grab the bull by the horn” and actually become a great coach.

I know people are taking it as a joke, but this guy doesn’t back down from anyone when he thinks he’s right (he certainly stood up to screaming A a few times and several others and put them in their place). Low key I think this guy has a good chance to be a great coach.
