Brad Stevens: “The criticism is stupid. [Tatum & Brown] achieved more than most 25, 26-year-olds ever had. The scrutiny was because they were playing in May & June…I’d rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out, than suck."

When Brad Stevens became coach in 2013, I posted my signature. You need players to win. But you also need attitude and determination to get there, My signature attached to every post since then hasn't faded but has grown stronger than ever.
I loved him then and love him now.

Not that anyone's counting:
Ainge - 1 title in 18 seasons
Stevens - 1 title in 3 seasons

Copying from a youtube comment, but couldn't agree more

I have to give all credit to Brad and ownership for realizing they needed a new voice in the locker room and the front office. Danny was incredible for Boston but I feel he lost touch with the locker room. He always prioritized talent and winning trades above all (which you can't blame him talent tends to rule all in the NBA). But he created a team where too many players wanted shots and minutes. No one knew the Jays better than Brad and what type of players they needed around them to best utilize their ability. That's exactly the moves he made to create this championship team.

I mean this is really unfair. Do you remember the team that Danny Ainge inherited back then with just Paul Pierce and a mediocre supporting cast.

Consider that Stevens inherited from Ainge a championship contender where he just had to add a few pieces to bring them over the top.

...and it would have been very VERY likely Fultz and Dunn picked... "WE GOT FULTZ, WE GOT FULTZ" scal chants are still reverberating in my skull from draft night.
This cannot be emphasized enough. It took Danny's self confidence to get those 2 picks right.
Fultz was the safe pick. Get that one wrong, well... everyone got it wrong.
Dunn, PC favorite? From neighboring RI would also been a safe pick.
If Ainge were lesser, we wouldnt be be having this Steven's discussion.

Yeah I am slightly unfair since Ainge came in at the end of the NBA season while Brad took the reigns at the beginning .
YOu mean the team the prior year that went to the ECF and was 7th in the preseason odds for a championship , how far did the prior years team that Brad took over as GM?
Now lets say I was fair Ainge took over a team that made the 2nd round and lost to the team that made the finals.

The 2002 Team was a prototype of the mantra of this year's team, that the most important stat for winning is "3 point attempts".

I'm sorry never been that impressed with Ainge record, he had 2 lucky breaks.

May never be able to be proven but the Pierce , Antoine if surrounded with the right cast I would say could of won, ala the Detroit Pistons team.

You also assuming Ainge may have not deferred to the college coach that he just took out of college 3 years prior, who just took the chicken **** team that was meant to tank and took them to the ECF. I would venture to guess Brad had scouted Fultz and Tatum back in high school when he was at Butler.

That's a whole lot of assuming right there.

I'm sure Danny got lots of different opinions. I'm also pretty sure he weighed Brad's opinions very heavily. That's what great leaders do.

But ultimately, it was Danny's decision to make. He nailed it. Both drafts were a lil bit murky beyond the consensus 1 and 2 picks. To hit on back to back... give the man his props.

Just saying there ain't nothing to build on if those two picks were whiffed on.
