I agree Cade and Mobley get the rookie maxes, and Green/Houston are in wait and see mode.
I'd have no issue with Mobley at 25%, and that could end up looking like a bargain.
I don't think Cade is worth 25% it right now, but he's close. I still have hope he'll be worth it by his 5th or 6th season. However, the opportunity cost to the Pistons is zero -- who else are they gonna pay? -- and the potential cost to the Pistons of losing their by-far-best-player in Cade would be disastrous, so they pretty much have to lock him up.
100%. There's no real compelling reason not to max him - if he doesn't turn into that guy, you're starting over anyway.
Why would you just hand Cade a max? He hasn't earned it. Not remotely as good as Mobley or Barnes to date.
I'd give it a year and see if he takes a big jump. If so, do it at that point. If not, and he still insists on a max, let him test market. I don't think there's another team that would pay him close to a max based on what we've seen so far.
I kind of agree with this and we'll see how much leeway the new G.M. has because you still have to have that marketable prospect so people buy tickets.
