We don’t really give Spo credit. I watched what he did with some of the horrific rosters we had before Jimmy too, he was working magic. Go back and look at those teams, just absolutely horrible. Making guys like Rodney Mcgruder, Justice Winslow, Tyler Johnson, Dion Waiters, and Hassan Whiteside look like dudes. What have any of those players done after leaving Miami?
Spo is at his best to me when he has guys who are willing to engage in his system. I personally think he can develop young players too given the opportunity to do so (he really hasn’t had the chance) but look at what he’s done with mid round picks like Bam, Herro, and Jamie. 2nd round guys like Niko, undrafted guys like Duncan, Gabe, and Strus. We have a Coach that if we go young has the ability to make that work.
If you want to see how Heat ball really works, watch our summer league teams play. There is a system of ball that we play here. Letting some guys grow in that could be special. If you can get guys on Rookie deals now that can be developed and return value even on par with some of our recent mid round picks you could have something really special brewing.
Instead of trusting Riley and this front office to make some splashy moves I really wish would just let the best Coach in the game build out a team and develop it. He has shown time and time again that given young talent he will maximize it and develop it.
All the great teams in the league right now were essentially constructed that way, and I would think we would have an advantage there.
I actually think Spo gets his just due from fans. The Heat have a great developmental program, some of the younger guys you named a lot of their core development came behind the scenes with assistants. The Dan Craigs and Juwan Howards of the world.
