Whether or not hes a star right now is irrelevant. He certainly could be. But more importantly, it gives the Knicks another guy who can take the offensive burden off of Brunson while not giving up anything on defense. Thats very hard to accomplish in a trade.
Forget about who starts. They are loaded with switchable defenders and they can tailor their rotations to their opponent in the playoffs.
Making a trade to put them even with Boston was nearly impossible and you cant just sit and wait for Embiid or whoever to become available. So this makes them better now and also gives them a great asset they can use later if need be. Im excited for them.
It is an overpay in pure player value but may not be in terms of his value to the Knicks. If he had continued to play like he did when he 1st got to Brooklyn then he would've been a Jaylen Brown type player but I think he is slightly less talented which is still good. I think this move could force him back to his Phx days as a highly efficient role player.
If this move forces out Hartenstein, then it may be a bad move. His floaters were daggers on highly defended possessions because of his efficiency hitting those shots. Unfortunately, I think they trade Randle and Robinson to free up space for OG and Hartenstein.
