Re: are the Knicks LEGIT contenders?!
They're a 60 win team if they resign OG & Hartenstein. Yes, absolutely. Brunson is legit and I love Thibs defense teams.
You could say it about every team, but durability concerns are always a thing and notably this is a Thibs team. When he was with the Bulls I thought it was a combination of bad luck, Bulls at the time medical staff, and organizational missing pieces (development, nutrition, whole-body cryotherapy, etc.) to not have better durability. I don't really put it on Thibs. But maybe it's an accessory to him and his coaching staff that gets missed. It's worth mentioning. And NYK teams historically have terrible luck.

Re: are the Knicks LEGIT contenders?!
I don't think it would be a disaster for the Knicks if they blink and walk away if OG's contract demands are too excessive..
His frequent injury history make him a risky investment of sorts.
Granted the Knicks win-loss % when OG was in their line up was extraordinary.
The longer this draws on, the more likely he is leaving it seems unfortunately

I didn't know Becky Hammond had an account here.
not really following the joke here. Did Becky Hammon make some kind of comment about the Knicks?

Comparing DPOY-Caliber Bridges to bum Harris?
The green teamers have never watched a single non Celtics game in their lives. I highly doubt they watch their own team, they just Stan for Tatum.

They gave up nearly Triple the Derrick White trade to Boston...
Sure it’s an overpay.
But if we’re looking at it from a standpoint of something tangible, in terms of player collection, they got a lot better.
Bridges is not Tobias Harris, not remotely close.

Actually one simple search will show you when they actually were at “their best”
?s=46&t=tVloFuZHnRcV_n-C8CiW9Q
With wins agains juggernaughts like
Bulls
Wizards X2
Blazers
Grizzlies
Nets
Hornets
Raptors
Dallas minus Luka
Also beat Wolves , Sixers, nuggets and heat,
So you actually think the depleted Knicks in the playoffs are better than Knicks at full strength?
What are you even arguing here?

I see. I dont follow NBA Today closely enough to know about these talking points... though as you pointed out i generally agree with her point. im not going as far as she is. i think this team COULD succeed, im just saying its a harder path. it doesnt happen very often.

I think this move - if Randle buys into a lesser role certainly moves them into the contender conversation on paper. The East isn't particularly strong, so why not?

The think was, last year before he got hurt, he did buy in. Which is why after the OG trade, the Knicks were a very good team.

If they lose OG how is this trade considered good with how much they gave up to upgrade him?

They’re expected to keep OG according to multiple ESPN sources

Knicks mortgaged their ENTIRE future for a 3rd tier star. Knicks gon Knick
Their entire future is in the current team they have now. They’re going to be a playoff team for the rest of the decade. They’ll be fine.

Re: are the Knicks LEGIT contenders?!
I like Brunson, and Bridges will be considered a top 15 player in NYC because of the Media. However, you can't put them as the favorite against Boston, Denver, Minnesota or even a healthy Milwaukee. The media will however play it off as the Knicks can/will win the East, but in my mind they aren't really a threat. Good team but as presently constructed they aren't there.

I am sure they expect too.
There is no way they traded pieces away to get him, only to let him walk away. The question is: Does OG want NYK, especially after they traded for Mikal, or does another team overpay for him.
I think the odds are higher that someone either overpays or OG wants to be a second option somewhere.

I know you're a Celtic fan and is one of the most likable teams in the NBA but less you are reminded about Mikal, there's this:
Stop All Genocides

A healthy Milwaukee is something we haven't seen in at least two seasons and they are an older team. A team that lost a lot of their defensive identity when they traded Jrue.
So the only other team left on that list is Boston. Which means, it's likely they would face each other in the ECF. And if by chance they do get past Boston, they are DEFINITELY a legit contender.
So, I don't understand why it's out of the question.

Its not out of the question that by the end of next year that the Knicks won't contend. But as of right now I can't say they're a threat like those teams mentioned previously.
