The sound of Sixers fans crying

I seriously wonder where they go with all that cap space, two of their main targets are off the board. And they still have to pay Maxey

Correction we absolutely have to worry about the salary cap , but I get the sentiment

I was about to say the same thing!

His salary equates to $42.5 mil per season. That's substantially more than the KNICKS originally expected and that would have helped us out related to the salary cap. Still, glad it's done.

Let's see how Leon and company juggle the books to work out the numbers and tax aprons to our advantage.

Good question.

Just know the entire amount (including bonuses) counts toward the cap.

I was hoping OG would give us a slight discount but guess not. I personally would have told him to take a hike. This regime has been so good and responsible with contracts, it doesn't feel right to have this guy make more then Brunson, Randle and Bridges. Considering he has never and very likely never make an AS game and is always hurt. So to give him 5 years and $42.5M avg. sucks and I hope it doesn't become one of those poison untraceable contracts.

This makes the news of giving up all of those draft picks a lot better.

btw

the max he could've gotten as a FA:

4/182

the max we could give him

5/243

imo:

we probably started at 4/150

Philly certainly offered him 4/182

thats a big gap.

so we had to do what was necessary to keep him.

Even though the 5/212 is below his max of 245, I'd wager OG is actually a max contract franchise cornerstone player, but since his impact is on the side of the ball that's significantly less statistically quantifiable it's not readily apparent to the general public.

Just have to hope his inevitable injuries don't crop up at the wrong times.

Were the other teams tempering? I do not think they are allowed to give offers to OG before the moratorium.

Knicks setting the market and making it more difficult for all other teams to make moves. Kinda like what the Timberwolves did with the Gobert trade.

Thanks to the Knicks, elite 3&D guys are now either worth $40+ million a year or 4 unprotected 1st round picks

btw

we dont beat Philly in game 4 or 6, I forget which one,

we dont beat Philly without OG deciding to guard embiid the 4th quarter, fronting him and draining out the shot clock on like 10 straight possessions with precious backside defender.

Philly tried to screw us, we had to do whatever needed to be done. I was hopping for 5/196 but whatever, we got our guy.

There is no better wing defense in the league right now.

Seen his posts in the Mikal thread and wasn’t even worth it to quote him. Let him die in the street like the dog he is.

Let's trade Randle for defense and shooting in a big and we're ready to rock.
