I don't know enough about our cap situation with vs. without DDR, but if we straight just let him walk all we really, really need to round out the roster somewhat is an athletic center.

We will definitely need shooters and other things longer term, no doubt. But the only hugely glaring hole would be a 5 who can run and elevate.

Portland pick for pick #31 or #32?

Some quotes from the AK presser. Buckle up, I suppose. Lets see what he can cook up.

So from what it sounds like, we did not workout Buzelis. Not a huge problem. I am still a bit scarred from the "We didn't even workout Teague, but we were shocked he was available" fiasco.

Drummond has said he wants to resign.

It has been sounding like we may resign Drummond. Would still like to get a you C defensive on the roster.

It's just a bizarre line given we don't really have cap room unless they renounce Demar and PWill. So that leaves S+T stuff or the MLE.

We're waiting to see who is available on the MLE? That doesn't seem like a pivotal factor but hey I'm not a moron. So we'll see what AK does.

Terrence Shannon Jr to Minnesota is such a great pickup for them. Crazy that he's older than Ant.

We'll probably end up with Jericho Sims.

One more random thought for the night: God bless Jay Bilas in general, he is always a highlight of draft night. But God bless Jay Bilas in particular tonight for basically taking the Terrance Shannon segment and turning it into an opportunity to tell people who might not otherwise know, in his own lawyerly way, "hey, Shannon is a good kid who got stuck in a crap situation and you folks need to just completely shake that bogus nonsense off" type of way. Talking about how impressive and unusual it was that Shannon actually took the stand in his own defense, etc.

Straight class. I'm sure Minny's executives and marketing department appreciated it as well.

It’s already reported that AK wants to trade Zach before DDR. That won’t happen until all the FAs find a home.

I think DDR walks. Zach stays till deadline. Pat resigns.

I still think AK wants to compete and end the season with the 10th seed and luck out with it jumping up ala Hawks and Rockets.

I sincerely have no idea the scenarios required to create actual capspace this summer. Is it just letting DDR walk, if you sign Pat to something reasonable? Or does it also require something with Zach? I am clueless. I was just saying, operating on the perhaps baseless assumption that we can create space beyond the MLE, that the one obvious short term need to balance out the roster is an athletic 5.

we'd be $11 million under the cap if we let derozan and pat walk (with only 11 guys under contract), so you'd have to move a big piece still to open up more space than the MLE would allow

Cap thread shows 40M to resign DDR Pat and Drum.

I’m thinking Drum gets 2/12
Pat gets 20M per

What’s the MLE?

Unless they try to get Ball declared medically retired (signals are they are not), then you basically have to walk away from Pat and Demar entirely to have actual cap room. And it wouldn't even be that much cap room.

the mid-level exception is a CBA rule that lets over-the-cap teams offer players contracts up to a certain salary limit. for the next season, that salary is just a hair under 13 million for the first year of a contract

Sorry. Knew that. I was asking for the number.

Big thanks.

If we are low key tanking what do we do with that MLE money? Who do we target that is a buy low player that become an asset?

I'm actually pretty excited about the potential Buzelis/Giddey/PWill/Ayo/Coby future core. Lots of cutters, passing, with some defensive potential. Could use more shooting (when don't we?), but I think that team can get out and run.

I wouldn't mind putting Javonte on that squad for more athleticism and cutting.

Defense isn't ideal. Buzelis blocks shots but he needs to get A LOT stronger to not get bullied in the post.

Either way, it's an intriguing squad and I might have to tune in next season for what will almost certainly be a more fun team to watch.
