I like it for Portland. Avdija was playing well last year and a legitimate sized SF who can shoot and defend is nice to have.

If we don’t trade Brown it’s due to Masai being stubborn. Brown has huge value in the league.

Now we know what the price of a late lottery pick is...

Seems weird though, Deni is still young enough to fit into any rebuild, and he's already a solid player. Unless they are REALLY trying to start from scratch and just let Peele be the tank commander?

Makes sense for POR since he fits right in agewise, bit of a weird trade overall though.

I mentioned it later in the thread, but his 3pt % went back to his career averages after the all-star break. They might just be selling high. His FT% is still not great.

That might be giving the Wiz too much credit

But since it is a new FO, I think you might be right.

Should have ample opportunities to get those FG attempts up.

Suddenly the Poeltl deal doesn’t look as bad. Weird deal for both teams.

Not too bad if the Wiz can pick up someone nice to pair with Sarr at 14. Plus they can always flip Brogdon off to a contender at some point to get more assets. They still have young wings on the roster as is.

Portland gotta figure out who to prioritise between Scoot/Simons/Sharpe and now Avdija. Maybe they deal Grant and they found his replacement here.

As if Masai doesn’t have a history of waiting too long.

A team in our situation, yes. But from a value perspective, no.

Whole point of trade was to win not to get value. Reminds me of stock pickers who are more obsessed with finding cheap stocks than making money.

Finding cheap stocks would be the Spurs in that example. For us, it’d be like buying a very safe, conservative stock that has a solid dividend but little growth year to year. The Spurs cheap stock can explode but it will most likely not. But it’s a chance for them to take. And it’s something we should be doing as well.

Value is always relative to price. A very safe, conservative stock can still be a bad purchase if the price is too high.

Looks like the price wasn’t too high. Spurs traded the 8th overall pick for a FRP in 2031. That is absolutely wild.

6th was way more valuable to us than Spurs.

Spurs didn’t want Poeltl so anything they got for him was a bonus.

Finally, the true cost of the trade for us is much higher when you factor in what happened with FVV, Siakam, lower draft pick in 2023, etc.

They turned a previously lottery protected pick in a weak draft into 2030 swap and a totally unprotected pick in 2031. That's a pretty smart bet on Ant asking out of Minnesota by then, if you ask me.
