Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 3
Jared McCain's freshman stats were eerily similar to some undersized, unathletic combo guard at Davidson 17 years ago. And obviously versus much tougher competition with Duke.

Meh, shot volume, FTA and assists are an indicator of how much ball handling responsibilities/capabilities Curry had. A ceiling of reaching Desmond Bane kind of impact (he's shorter, although just 1 inch barefoot) is more realistic imo. Obviously an impact player from the bench due to his defensive and playmaking liabilities is far more likely.

I’m cool with building our future around the next Dame (Maxey) and Steph (McCain).

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 3
He’s 20 years old, an incredible shooter with a quick release, who tied zions scoring record as a freshman for single game points, and everyone says he’s an absolute work horse.
Instead of trashing the pick/player, thinking I know more than anyone, I’m exited to see him play.
Obviously, we have more work to do with our roster, but this pick was never going to put us into contention with the Celtics and Knicks

Let's see if the kid can play. And if he can, I don't give a F if he dances or what color his nails are.

Morey is gonna give us a week or two to fall in love with the kid so he can trade him just so it hurts worse.

Whether Jared McCain turns out to be the next Steph Curry or just another Seth Curry, we need to focus on acquiring some lengthy players at the SF and PF positions. Once we accomplish that, he will be a really great fit here.

Yea, I don't think he has the same handles as Steph, but he did say in interviews that he came to Duke to play a role. In high school he was obviously much more on ball and has a lead ballhandler's game. If he can expand that type of game, then he opens a level of potential that I wasn't expecting. Otherwise, yea he's a better Seth Curry, which is great at 16.

Or when we trade Maxey for Doncic, McCain is a perfect off-ball guy to start at PG.

Kobble made a comment about Holland sounding dumb so we didn't miss out on him and I completely agree. Conversely, McCain sounds like a he's fresh out of debate club.

Dont start. I also have several similar thoughts in mind.
Maybe something that involves Steph Curry or Devin Booker perhaps?

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 3
why are people acting like McCain is going to start right away lol
I keep seeing "oh the backcourt will be so small" as if he will start next to Maxey and play 30+ minutes.

Yeah, the "does he sound dumb" test is usually highly accurate.
I didn't catch all the interviews, but from what I saw:
Sounded Smart:
- Cody Williams
- Jared McCain
Sounded Dumb:
- Ron Holland
- Kel'el Ware

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 3
Is it just me or Zach LaVine suddenly becoming more palatable? Hate the contract and his injury history, but with the pool of players that could make us legit contenders is dwindling and IF everything goes well LaVine does fit in that category.
Obviously the price has to be right…aka giving up little to nothing

NY and Boston each have at least 4 starters who are all excellent and all veterans in or near their primes.
Brunson
Bridges
OG
Randle
JRue
White
Brown
Taytum
Porzingis
Maxey
Council
Reed
Biid
Even if we're able to add some kind of star, Ingram (which seems unlikely), George (see Ingram, plus he's aging and injury-prone)....look at those NY and Boston lineups.
It's entirely possible that we're passed by another team or three and are just middle of the pack for the golden years of Embiid's prime. Guess we'll see what we'll see, but it's hard to feel good when I look around at what other teams have been building.
To be fair two of those listed Celtics are old (Jrue 34) or injury prone (Porzingis).
As for the Knicks, I think folks forget one of the main reasons we lost games at the start was simply because we got out hustled and rebounded. If we had taken away 2nd chance points we win that series. That is with Joel hurt and Tobias auditioning to play Casper. We really need to find perimeter threats but also guys that get after it on the boards. A cost effective option could be Obi Toppin.
If we did have to play McCain next to Maxey; I like him taking on Brunson. Maxey can hold his own on OG who isn't a great onball shooter. Really, we just need to find guys at SF and PF who don't play like Tobias.

It's going to be crazy when we take Bronny today.
