Lopez is a fringe rotation player in the playoffs. We'd be better off not playing him, but we haven't had other options.
Daniels isn't fringe, he'd be the best defender on the team next to Giannis. Huge role for defenders in the playoffs. He's just presently wasted on a team that already has Herb Jones.
Lopez is still a starter and played starter minutes. Daniels played 17 minutes in the entire series. They could have played him over Alverez but chose not too. He is a developmental player.
He missed games with injury in that series. He just turned 21. He has all the skills. He'll be the best player in this trade next season. We're also getting a 1st in this deal.
I'm not saying Daniels can't develop into a good player, but I'm not seeing him taking this big of a step in year 3 to jump ahead of Lopez.
if you compare WS/48 and TS% Brook significantly more valuable and a much better shooter than Dyson.
Lopez: WS/48 = .117 and TS% .608 (3P% = 36.6/FT% = 82.1)
Daniels: WS/48 = .103 and TS% = .529 (3P% = 31.1/FT% = 64.2)
Brook's only season where he posted a WS/48 below .105 was in 2011/12 season when he only played 5 games. FYI he's averaged .138 since joining the Bucks. I don't see Daniels taking this large of a step forward and/or Brook's game declining next season to the point where Dyson surpasses him in overall value.

I agree with all that, but they're on different trajectories, and those are regular season stats. I'm only concerned with what they'll be come playoff time

Dort but OKC's asking price will be significantly higher than PDX's for Thybulle, especially if they are still looking to shed salary.

How do you figure when Daniels wasn't even part of the Pelicans playoff rotation after returning from his knee injury? He was a healthy scratch in game 4. And please don't try to say he wasn't 100% because he averaged over 24mpg in the final 9 regular season games which included his first game back where he only players 10 min.

Claxton is off the market. Hartenstein may be on the move, and OKC seems like a good bet.
So, Orl, Sac, Lal, Hou seem like viable Brook landing spots.
Everyone is expecting Hartenstein to leave at this point, but I kinda think his market ends up being less than expected and he decides to take a little less to try to win a title with the group he bonded with so much this year.

I'm not positive but I think it's already been announced that Jalen Smith is declining his option in order to enter free agency.

There's no way we can go into next season having to use up 5 roster spots to carry AJ Johnson, Marjon, Livingston, Ajax, and whoever we take at #33. Something's got to give there.

Agreed. My guess would be that we're going to trade the pick tonight but in any event, some combination of these guys will almost certainly be on the move this offseason. I think Johnson is probably the one piece I'd consider a "lock" to be here.

There's no reason they can't carry those five. Last year's opening roster had the guys above as well as Lindell Wigginton, Tyty Washington, and Marques Bolden.

Well then I guess I would substitute the word "should" for "can".

Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas - Darvin Returns
I don’t really buy that Horst is a terrible drafter. He’s had 11 picks in his tenure prior to this draft, and 8 have been 2nd round picks, right?
In any given draft there’s 15-20 actual nba players. He may have 3 that would qualify in Donte, Dre, and Merrill. That hit percentage is reasonable, but again he’s had 3 firsts prior to this year where the hit likelihood is much higher. The highest he’s drafted is 17 with Donte and Wilson, and he’s drafted in the 50’s 5 times.
He also looks like he may have gotten an undrafted gem in AJ Green, but I’m less sure there.
I hope Johnson is a hit, because if he is, he’s probably a very good one.

Not sure you can give Horst credit for Donte and Merrill hitting when he’s the same guy that gave up on them.

But if we’re just talking about draft prowess and eye for talent, I think we can.
We kinda know the circumstances of both trades. Donte was coming off an injury, having a miserable season, on an expiring contract, and we made a terrible trade for a stopgap big for brook insurance. I think we clearly thought Donte was talented seeing as he was a high level rotation piece for us immediately.
The other trade was for a player we thought could start for us, and help us win immediately, in Grayson. That was true.
Both those trades were to help immediate issues. The Donte trade was bad, and the Grayson trade was good, but neither of those speak to Horst’s draft evaluations of those players. Those are hits in my mind.

Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas - Darvin Returns
Also, how could we not count Donte as a hit for Horst? He had proven to be a playoff rotational piece for us while he was on his rookie contract, prior to being traded.
It’s not like he only became a legitimate NBA player after we traded him. He’s gotten a lot better, but he was already quite good.

I think the 2nd rd pick is traded for future 2nd rd picks, or (w/ filler) for a role player. Horst inkled it.
Then I think there's a good chance Marjon is gone for more 2nd rd draft capital, accompanied w/ a ng'ed contract to clear space.
From the comments on Livingston, he's staying. He's cheap, they laid out a plan for him initiall & he's on track. He also fits the small ball 4 archetype next to Giannis. Though we should pick up another guy, & that's also something Horst inkled.
