Baylor was a star HS quarterback in Nebraska. 59 touchdown as a senior! He is probably tougher than we think.
Frail is not the adjective that comes to mind. If anything, rugged. Defenders are bouncing off him. Got that football mindset. Also, love that he's a lefty, tougher to defend his first move.

Enough size that he should hold up defensively once he gets used to the NBA speed. No idea how he lasted this long on the board. A+ pick.

Watched a random full Creighton game on Youtube. My impressions on Baylor Scheierman are that he seems to be a capable secondary playmaker and ballhandler. His off the dribble shot creation seems to be one edge he's got over Hauser. He loves his stop and pop midrangers. Better rebounder than Sam too and I think he'll be better off defending 4s rather than guards. Obviously I'd give Hauser the edge on shooting and defense right now.

Might be a good small ball stretch 4, especially with knack for rebounding

Too many missing the comp for Brad's pick here: Gordon Hayward.
G was drafted after 2 years instead of 5, measured a half inch taller but more than that less in wingspan, and B with if anything some better #s (to be expected for the years). But very, very similar both for numbers overall--and draft writeups re: both strengths and weaknesses.

Horford happy to see the Celtics add someone older than him on the roster.

Yes that crossed my mind.

I'd say it's somewhere in the middle.
I wouldn't call him frail. But I also wouldn't go so far as saying he's a rugged guy with defenders bouncing off him.
I'd say he's in between.
I'm not too worried about strength with him..think he's a little stronger than Hauser.
Honestly, the only concerns are limited athleticism (nothing he can really do about that) and suspect defense.
The defense is the key question with him and will determine when he will be ready to see meaningful mins for Boston.
Offensively, he's ready..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

Re: Welcome to Boston, Baylor Scheierman!
Here are two predraft evaluations. One is Sam Hauser. The other is Baylor Scheierman.
He projects as a 3pt specialist who will have to round out his game and improve his athleticism to hold down a spot in the league.
He’s got heavy, slow feet and projects as a below average defender at the next level who will get roasted by NBA level athletes. Still, with 3pt shooting at such a premium he’ll be given a chance to make it.
Although he’s 6-foot-7, he is not a great athlete and could struggle to defend at the next level when he’s asked to take on bigger, stronger and faster players. Regardless, the 3-point shooting will be enough for teams to value what he brings to the table.

There are other players I would have preferred.
I don’t think he can defend but it is because he is too slow not too frail. He is big for SG at 6-7 205 lbs and got 9 rebs per game so he likes to mix it up.
I wonder who ends up as the better NBA shooter - him or the Laker pick Knecht? Could it be the next chapter in the Zizic vs Zubac, Tatum vs Kuzma debates which never really close anyway.
Knecht is better attacking the basket, finishing near the rim. Has a little more of a shot creation "bag". Significantly more athletic as well and slightly younger.
Knecht literally WAS the entire Tennesse offense and Tennesse was like a top 5 team in college basketball. Meanwhile, Scheirman was a key part of Creighton's offense but also had 2 other legit NBA prospects (alexander and Kalkbrenner) to help carry the load.
For those reasons, I have Knecht as the better prospect.
Scheierman is a better rebounder and playmaker.
Shooting-wise, I think they're pretty close..both *really* good shooters.

haha, very similar indeed.
The Celtics know that they already have a blueprint that worked for helping Hauser to improve defensively. No doubt that went into this pick.

Feel like defense often isn't scouted that well. Caruso and Derrick White were 40% of the 2nd team all-defense and seems like those guys would have been drafted higher if that was known to be the case ahead of time.
Similar for guys like Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green. Could add Danny Green to that list and I'm sure a few others.

You left off the second half of that part of the second evaluation, which is 14 months old: "He’s a good positional rebounder as well and has great size. He’s also a creative passer who doesn’t get enough attention for his facilitation upside."

Re: Welcome to Boston, Baylor Scheierman!
Love the pick, but sad that this could be an omen that this is Hauser's last year with us.
Will be fascinating to see if Joe can work out rotations where both of them are on the floor at the same time. Sam has already proven that it's not the high percentage play people though it would be to attack him. And then offensively the barrage of 3's we could rain down on people would just be overwhelming.
Succession planning will be key for us going forward in terms of roleplayers though and this guy seems like someone who can come in and play off our core stars, so bravo Brad.

If they can repeat with Hauser playing 79 games, 25mpg and scoring 9ppg, 42% 3pt for 2mil. I'll take that and worry about replacing him in 25'.

Re: Welcome to Boston, Baylor Scheierman!
Hauser seems the more direct comparison but feels like he could play Pritchard's role as well. Seems like he's got some legit ball handling and playmaking skills to go with the shooting.
I'm not saying you put him at PG, but seems like he could run with a group that has either White or Holiday at PG and then him and Jaylen Brown on the wings or even him and Hauser on the wings with Tatum at point/power forward. You can stagger White's and Holiday's rest time to accommodate another wing playing Pritchard's rotation spot instead of needing a true backup PG.
Pritchard struggled to stay on the court vs. DAL because of the ISO defense on Luka. There's just an inherent size mismatch. If Sceierman can develop similarly to Hauser where he isn't a total sieve in ISO defense, then he could be an answer to how we get an 8th man into the rotation who adds a bit of shooting/playmaking/ballhandling like Pritchard without the ISO defense vulnerability.
