But it does show potential, maybe he's not ready now but in a few years, with the right development, he might be. And look, while we're good now, the big reason for that is cause Brunson, Randle, Mikal, and DDV are all underpaid. Brunson and Randle both have player options after this season, and Mikal is only under contract for 2 years, so in 2 years we're gonna have to make some decisions

It's a long term play, and I like it. I would prefer he stay overseas for another year (to defer his contract one season), but if he does come over, he should be pretty much exclusively play in the G League, cause he just needs to develop, and I believe that'd be better for him than riding the bench the whole year, especially since Thibs would shorten to a 4-man rotation before letting him play actual minutes.

the first thing he needs to learn how to play some level of defense. If he wants to crack a Thibs rotation. The cross over dribble pull up are nice and all and he certainly has some level of a "bag". But buddy isn't cracking a knicks rotation with the current way he defends.

Which is why staying in Europe for another year is preferable for his development

I'm not trying to sh*t on the G League here, but in terms of learning to play team defense, you're much better off in Europe than the G League, and it's similar there where they wouldn't just give him minutes, he'd need to earn them. Cause European leagues are professionals trying to win, they're not there to hype up prospects.

I 100% agree the g-league really isn't a spot anyone is defending at a high level...I think its just guys trying to put on a offensive show to get noticed by other teams.

If he truly wants to get better he needs to stay over in Europe...he sounded pretty adamant about coming over and he has a guaranteed year. But maybe the knicks FO can talk some sense into him and his agent about his long term future.

I also didn't think of this can his contract (not rookie scale) be aggregated with Bogs to give us enough to cover Mikal or does a rookie contract being traded not work that way?

God bless the draftknicks of this thread talking actual hoops, but this guy will never see action in the O&B unless it's in Westchester, and even then chances seem slim.

The maximizing cap space under the apron has been mentioned a few times and makes a ton of sence for Leon's strategy, but the wrench in that plan is that Pacome said he plans to come over. I think that's a wait and see what happens situation.

I like that the front office has modernized and is prioritizing shooters/scorers to open up space for Brunson. For awhile it looked like we were really trying to go back to the 90's. Watched some YouTube Dadiet and his offensive IQ is very high, he moves to get open, knows his spots, plays under control, and doesn't hesitate, he's plays with confidence. I hope he makes the roster, I like having fresh energy off the bench, young guys who push the vets, and what a great situation this is to learn in.

According to Givonny (I’m listening to Zach Lowe’s podcast right now) says he spoke to his agent last night and he confirmed he will be coming over this year and not a draft and stash, the Knicks are buying him out of his Euro contract and expects him to be on the roster this Fall.

Draft grades

CBS
Spoiler:
25. New York Knicks: SF Pacome Dadiet, France

Big wing with a big moon-ball shot and a soft, natural touch. This is a long-term play. If he does come over, he'll be a G Leaguer, but he more than likely will stay in Europe after playing in Germany last season. Grade: C+

Yahoo
Spoiler:
25. New York Knicks: Pacome Dadiet, SG
Grade: B+
Dadiet is one of the youngest players in the draft, still just 18 years old, and will be a draft-and-stash development project for the Knicks. His size and strength at 6-8 along the perimeter is what first stands out when he plays, and he's showing more signs as a poised playmaker off the wing, finishing his season in Germany for Ratiopharm Ulm on a high note.

SI
Spoiler:
25. Knicks draft Pacome Dadiet (Ratiopharm Ulm)
Grade: B
Dadiet won’t see the floor for at least a few years, but has feel for the game and offers tremendous upside. Even better, he’s likely a nice trade chip should the Knicks want to continue to add depth to its core.

BR
Spoiler:
With the 'Nova Knicks fully realized and OG Anunoby sticking around, New York has assembled one of the league's deepest rosters. So, it made sense to chase upside at this spot.

The Knicks did that with Pacome Dadiet, an 18-year-old scorer who can light the lamp from all three levels. He is a smart off-ball mover and perpetually ready to fire.

At this stage, he is only a one-skill supplier, though. His burst is limited, his defense can be sloppy and he is prone to bouts of tunnel vision.

A lot of his warts could theoretically be coached out of him. So long as the Knicks stay healthy, they should be content letting him grow at his own pace.

Grade: C+

Ringer
Spoiler:
NEW YORK KNICKS
B+
I called it: With Dadiet’s selection, four Frenchmen have been drafted in the first round, the most from any non–North American country in any first round ever. Dadiet is one of the youngest prospects in the class and has one of its best names, hands down. The Knicks are all in for this coming year, which makes it all the more important to begin developing more players of an archetype essential to New York’s success. Dadiet’s profile is fascinating: a 6-foot-8 power wing with a broad frame, slippery handle, and legitimate pull-up shooting ability. To make a cross-sport analogy, he’s stylistically Rhamondre Stevenson of the New England Patriots: a massive bowling ball of a man who wins with uncommon finesse rather than with power.

Skilled teenage Frenchman who displays raw go-to scoring upside.
SHADES OF Michael Finley

PLUSES
Skilled shooter off the dribble. He’s comfortable pulling up from midrange, whether it’s stopping on a dime or stepping back. If he extends his range, he could become a major scoring machine.

Good shooting potential off the catch. He isn’t yet a knockdown guy but has smooth form and soft touch on free throws and layups.

Decisive attacker off the dribble with a good first step and the burst to turn the corner. He’s capable of finishing comfortably using either hand with touch layups or finishing with power when he has room to take off.

Displays good vision for finding his teammates. His IQ shows when moving without the ball. He has a feel for getting himself open using relocations around the perimeter and cuts to the rim. He’ll pounce on the mistakes made by defenders.

Long-armed wing with a strong, wide frame and the upside to defend multiple positions as he matures physically.

MINUSES
Too sloppy with the ball. He makes inaccurate passes, telegraphs the ball to teammates, and lacks awareness when defenders are lurking nearby as he handles.

Didn’t read through the thread but… the kid is 18 and 6’9ish????

He probably not done growing with his base level skills he could develop into a problem..

I do see the “French” Knox comparisons from his frame.. but overall I’m just not used to the Knicks drafting someone who looks like he has a modern style game like this.. (do think his dribble was too high from the clips posted)

So explain AJ Johnson at pick 23 who had worst stats than him and played in foreign league but is American.

If he plays in college with his on ball ability at 18.... he goes 100% in the first round potentially lottery.

There is not much difference in him and Kyshawn George.
