None of the above was our pick. Can't pretend this isn't a gut punch.

You'd think we were the Wizards.

Spurs were obviously playing with house money at 8 so they could afford to flirt with Salaun for 8 once they locked in their guy at 4.

Our front office behaved like we had 2 lottery picks like the Spurs, 1 to secure and 1 to burn.

We seem to really want to play the 2025 draft. So, I expect them to lowball Miles, say they tried and proceed to rack up losses.

Premiere.

Yep, it's clear Lee and Peterson looked at the East and said not this year.

To be fair if you look at the top 6 of next year -- Bailey, Traore, Harper, Edgecombe, obviously the prize Flagg... There are a lot of dynamic wing/rim pressuring guard types we should be able to get. Real stars. So if you view Salaun as basically a pick for 2026 it's not as bad.

But it's clear: we are going to be bad next year, and the next, and probably 2027 is the first year we can hope to break .500. Depressing.

Well we'd be banking on existing player development and getting lucky with low cost FA picks again. So there's a chance we improve and become a playoff team before then, but it won't be because they did everything they could to win.

Yeah, no retaining Miles, no creative deals to acquire Marcus Smart, no plan to spend the cap on a free agent once they break ties with Miles.

I would love to get Melton, if the plan is to let Miles walk.

But there's no way we want to spend money and try for wins.

I really don't think you can look at our draft and read what their approach will be in FA. Someone connect those dots for me please.

I don't think it's unreasonable to connect Salaun and Miles, but anything else seems a reach.

So we drafted an 18 year old who is not ready to contribute...why is that a signal that we aren't keeping Miles again?

I don't think it has any impact on Miles. In fact it's less of an impact than most of the other picks we could've made because I cannot see this guy playing meaningful minutes this season if any at all.

I'm in agreement with you. The point could be made that drafting a guy that plays Miles position is insurance against Miles leaving for nothing, not so much that it's a signal. I don't think the pick says very much about free agency plans or what the franchise approach will be.

Picking a raw talent, with likely multiple years of development required before he can play meaningful minutes in the NBA should have zero impact on what we do in 4 days in free agency

Yes. I agree. I don't even think he's an upside role replacement for Bridges. I only meant to point out the one, pretty stretchy argument you could make with the draft pick and FA plans. The selection should have no impact on FA.

i feel 100% confident in saying that when we were on the clock last night there were 0 of us that had salaun as our top choice.
