Now what?
Love the Deni trade and Clingan pick.
Still want to see Thybulle, RW3, Grant, Simons and possibly Ayton flipped for picks or young guys. Get as many FRP’s for 2025 & 2026.
Flagg, Bailey, Harper and AJ D. & Boozer all look to be studs in the making. Add 2/3 of those to our core and we have a chance at doing something finally.
Couple them with Scoot, Shay, Deni, Tou, Clingan and you got the makings of a well rounded squad. Plus if Walker, Murray or Rupert pop even better.

Yeah my thoughts exactly, disappointed they didn’t trade back n for Knecht or DaSilva, but let’s see what they do next

Re: Now what?
The Blazers will suck no matter what next season, but I wonder why they wanted to trade for Avdija when they could of just had a rookie wing if they kept their 14th pick and REALLY SUCKED.
Blazers have an interesting young roster. The veterans: Avdija (23) Simons (24) & Ayton (25) and the young guys/rookies: Sharpe, Scoot, Clingan.

Re: Now what?
General 1st Round DD Thoughts...
I'm starting to come around on the Deni deal a bit after initial overreaction. Knowing now that Clingan was going to be there at 7 helped a lot. My concern was trading away that 14 was that then they would have to overreach for Edey or just not come out of this day with any real frontcourt help.
On the Deni side, here is a tweet directly from Mike Schmitz's own twitter account calling him the steal of that 2020 draft...
Now obviously, given some of the other talent out of that draft, Haliburton and Maxey definitely take that mantel. But looking at that draft class in general, one could make an argument he's one of the Top 10... maybe top 5 guys from that whole class. I do always say I prefer the proven commodity over potential of prospect hopium, and in that case, Deni has proven he can be a successful player in the league. I still don't like 2 first rounders going out or at least wish the 2029 pick was the least favorable of all the picks they own that year... but whatever. What's done is done and not worth griping over more. Enough people across the league seem to think this was a steal for Portland, so I'll holster my frustration and hope to take a big L for my initial reaction.
I'm still feel pretty snakebit over white 7ft C's given what the Blazers have experienced over the last 15... 20 years. Przybilla, Kaman, Leonard, and Collins. A who's who of bleh. Hoping Clingan can buck the trend. One thing for sure is he was very clearly BPA, he was who the Blazers coveted the most and they didn't have to pull an Olshey to trade up to get him. He fell in their laps, so I really can't fault them for taking a legit 7' defensive who, by all accounts, should not have been there.
All in all, not really much to be that upset about with the dust all settled.
As for, now what? Start shopping Grant, Thybulle, Simons and TRob. None of those guys should be on the roster to start the season imo.

Re: Now what?
Blazers will be perhaps 10 games better but won't be that much better until Scoot/Shaedon are
much better.
Deni has only had one solid season but is a better player than Camara
I think Clingan will do well for he will give Portland a physical presence on the court. Let's see if
that natural stroke he showed in the workouts will translate into live games
If Portland moves on from Simons in the end, they will need a bigger guard that can handle the ball
with the departure of Brogdon.
A least Portland is no longer in the tax and let's just see how the new Rookies fare in the summer
practices.
much better.

Maybe trade Simmons to Orlando for Jett Howard and a big TPE? they'll have the capspace, and they just drafted Da Silva as a more experienced and verstaile backup to Franz. I would like to see Deni playing at 4, and Howard could provide much needed spacing.

I think Ant stays here until the FO figures out whether it'd be better to move on from Scoot

It might take 3 seasons to figure that out

Might take less if Scoot miraculously transforms into a good player over the summer

I think Grant and possibly Thy get moved and we roll with that. Simon's is a much better player than Scoot at this point, and with the departure of Brogdon we need depth. I guess we should wait until the 2nd round is complete. I think timelord sticks also.

Re: Now what?
didnt simons ask quietly for a trade ?
well i hope in this off season we trade grant, simons.
and maybe by DL we can trade DA or by next off season. clear a lot of cap while we see who pans out because if we stink and have a good lotto pick, somewhere down the line we're going to have to sign them to an extention.

I saw this on twitter when I woke up, which made my worries about Simons that I went to bed with last night less. I do think it's a pretty telling quote, accidental or not. I'm hopeful we see a trade of Simons today or as FA hits. Remember, FA starts Sunday night so we don't have to wait a long time to see what happens with the likes of PG, etc.
Maybe a team like Orlando is seeing what they can do with their capspace first before they want to make a move for a Simons in addition to using that capspace.
But I'm going to latch onto that quote and really, really hope.

Personally I think that quote is him defending his draft picks in recent years which is understandable. I don't think there is anything else to it.

Re: Now what?
I’d bet money Grant still gets moved for Topic and/or future 1st to one of the Lakers, OKC, Dallas, LAC, or Philly
Williams and Thybulle can be traded into someone’s MLE
Simons, I think that’s a tougher one. He makes so much sense for Orlando and SAS. Maybe you can pry away a couple future 1st for him?
I don’t think there is a market for Ayton but given how many minutes Clingan played in college it’s not the end of the world if we just keep him on his current contract. I’d take ANY asset I could for him though.
My bigger concern, despite our ability to tank the 2nd half of our season is that this current roster is just too good going into two good draft years. I want us to be as bad as possible and play the young guys as much as possible.

I heard that too.
I also heard something about a trade that would go down in a few weeks. Not sure if that was smoke or not.

It could literally be nothing, however, if it is, I could see it indicating that Simons' and his people may have quietly given the "hey, if you want to find something for our client, we're open to a move" kind of like how apparently Giddy's people did that with OKC's FO when they told him they saw his future as off the bench.

I think the brogdon trade can't be made official until July 6th, so that's probably what that refers to.

Re: Now what?
I watched the Cronin presser live, and I too arched a brow when he mentioned that about Scoot and Shaedon. I'm sure the statement was nothing, but I REALLY hope that the organization has the gonads to bring Simons off the bench as an uber-scorer. He would be so good in that role.
I'd love for the Blazers to get another backup SG to replace Matisse with 34...but we'll see. The guards I really liked (Tyson, Carrington, George, Shannon, Dadiet, Jones) were all picked in the first.
McCullar, Djurisic, Mitchell would likely be my target at #34. Either that or a C&S big like Tyler Smith.
