If the kid wants to play (and/or just GET PAID his million USD) is he stuck till the Knicks say so OR by being a FRP do the Knicks HAVE to offer him a money payable contract next season?

Question for the draft experts - the french kid says he wants to play next year but Knicks probably want him to stay in Europe (maybe for YEARS, if not decades).

a big at 38 seems likely seeing there is talent there

Mogbbo
Freeman
Ighodaro
Tyler Smith
even Filipowski but I don't think he is the style big the Knicks target with his defensive short comings.

then at 51 I wouldn't mind either of those UCONN guys you mentioned or a Jamal Shead (I think he personifies everything the Knicks org is about).

I think if he wants to come over Knicks have to allow him because 1st round picks are guaranteed contracts. They would mutually have to agree to stay in Europe.
Doesn't sound like he wants anything to do with that but maybe they can convince him by saying he won't be seeing any run and he will develop way more in Europe then with the Westchester Knicks.

Rod Dillingham to MIN was exactly the type of guy they needed. Way too much reliance on Edwards to be Kobe and also create for everyone else. They desperately needed an infusion of create your own shot offense. Might be ROY as a bench guy averaging 15 PPG

I don't think either of Newton or Spencer are really NBA prospects
With that being said, I would love Newton at 51 as a bench depth piece/Westchester Knick (especially if Dadiet comes over, I think that'd really help his development in the G League to have Newton there as PG)
Shead would be good value at 51, just I can't see any path to him actually playing for us (anybody we take at 51 is gonna be a longshot, but still)
But Mogbo at 38 is kind of who I really want, I think he could legit crack the rotation as Randle's backup this year. Yeah he can't shoot, but we need playmakers and he's a really intriguing one. Plus the defensive upside is something else
Then at 51, I've been mentioning him, but Ulrich Chomche is a great developmental C prospect. Don't think he'd make the roster, I think he'd be a stash guy, but raw upside wise, you probably won't find anyone else on that level
Or N'Faly Dante, he's a 1st round talent, just big injury issues. If he's there at 51, he could legit play year 1 as that 3rd string/emergency 2nd string C when Mitch inevitably gets injured again.

Thibs does like those attack the paint tough minded guards...outside of maybe Castle I don't think there is a better POA defender in the draft than Shead...he is just a leader and a great kid. At 51 maybe there isn't a pathway to play him but if we have an injury a winner like that probably is decent insurance as a 3rd string PG behind our guys.
If Kolek drops to 38 his work ethic and toughness could make some sense as well. You can kinda trust him in a small rotation role right now with his passing and C&S ability. We got smacked by TJ McConnell so maybe something there.
The guys we draft are probably going to be insurance anyway. I think either we are resigning Ihart...or if we aren't we will use the MLE to bring in a guy like Goga or someone like that. I don't think the team is banking on anyone in the draft to be a sure fire rotational player from the jump.

if the knicks are looking for a big man that can protect the rim, guard the perimeter and can playmake, oso is a nice option
“I’m a fan of Ighodaro because of his skill level,” an NBA scout told HoopsHype. “He doesn’t shoot it, but you can put him in a short roll and he’s really good. He can catch it at the top of the key and get to that floater he has or spray the ball to shooters.”
“Ighodaro can really pass the ball to connect your offense,” an NBA scout told HoopsHype. “It’s similar to the passing from Draymond Green with skip passes. He can defend and is athletic, but he can’t shoot. He was on my radar last year. I’m surprised he didn’t test the waters last year.”

It’s like when lil bitches make subliminal records, if it ain’t directed directly at me, I don’t respect it

Re: Official Draft Thread - Draft Starts @8 EST - Meadowlands Arena , NJ
With the depth, contracts and talent already on this roster the Knicks really don’t have much room for a guy that expects to be coddled or handed a spot.
Only way anyone they may pick in the 2nd round to make any real sort of impact and playing time (in his tenure with this team) is if he fights and claws for playing time AND that has enough of the right type of talent fo this team. So I’m looking for a versatile junkyard dog. Someone that won’t be intimidated by the bright lights and that won’t accept that he’s the bottom of the totem pole but has enough talent to fill an NBA level role.
So who is that guy?
Mogbo would seem to be that type of player. They worked him out twice so there’s interest. So if he’s still there and the Knicks decide to keep the pick I can see them going with Mogbo. More so than them going with someone that as a rep for being wishy washy. Raw but higher upside they already got in the 1st round. They aren’t going to draft another one in the 2nd (unless it’s to draft and stash again). Jed be a cheaper alternative to Precious Achiuwa with more shot creating ability. You can play him at the 4 and probably also some at the 5 (he’s got a giant wingspan, hops and power to make up for the lack of height). His ability to handle the ball and dish is something that can help any NBA team if developed.
Tyler Kolek could be another option but I don’t think that the Knicks are going to trust a rookie, no matter how old, with the important role of backing up Brunson. I think Brunsons backup will be an existing NBA player. At which point do the Knicks have room for another guard? I don’t think so.

Re: Official Draft Thread - Draft Starts @8 EST - Meadowlands Arena , NJ
Or the Knicks can go with another draft and stash. Chomche and Djurisic are both very high upside guys that probably wouldn’t be ready to contribute any time soon. But have the type of high upside potential that could make up for the loss of various 1st round picks down the road.
One way to make up for the loss of future 1st round picks is to draft raw high upside guys in the 2nd round that don’t get selected in the 1st round due to the rawness with the hope that they develop and the upside becomes 1st round talent several years from now. Then it’ll basically be 1st round talent you have in the pipeline without having 1st round picks.
The Knicks staff seem to have a good track record identifying NBA rotation guys in the 2nd round.
