Another undersized albeit thicker center. Does this officially spell the end of the Paul Reed Victory Tour in Philly?

I think Nick Nurse is in D's ear to draft high motor, high work ethic guys. Wish he had been here for the Simmons Fultz drafts.

I love the pick. Mo Bomba replacement.
Now cut Paul Reed and sign Hartenstien.

I like this pick! This guy definitely has upside. Maybe he could play some PF!

His trajectory is pointing upward. Hard to pass on him at 41.

He should be an impact player on both ends (finisher on offense and shotblocker on defense). Highly athletic. The big knock is his height. He's incredibly short for a C at just 6'8".

Cut Paul Reed? I don't think so, at least not unless we have the opportunity to sign some star who wouldn't be available without the Reed capspace. At least he now shoots 3s and is still developing-- and I still think he should get PT at the 4-- whereas Bona right now is just energy and rebounding/ blocks. If we can get something good for Reed in a trade I'm open to that, but there's no way you simply dump him.
Also, Hartenstein will cost way too much for a backup C.

I have no idea how he'll pan out on the floor.
But as far as size goes:
Here are Bona's draft combine measurements compared with Al Horford's:

BONA
Height without shoes: 6' 8 1/4"
Standing reach: 9'
Wingspan: 7’ 3 3/4 "
Weight: 243.2

HORFORD
Height without shoes: 6' 8''
Standing reach: 8' 11''
Wingspan: 7' 0.75''
Weight: 246.0

I know that's just a typo. The standing reach is supposed be 9' I'm guessing?

But just picture the person with those dimensions. In order to have a wingspan of 7'4" and a standing reach of just 7', your arms are only like 12 inches long (reaching 4 inches above your head). Which means... this guy is 5'4" wide! Best pick-setter in basketball!

Bona is more fluid and less robotic in his movements than Paul Reed. As a sophomore, he has a 2.6% steal rate and around a 9% block rate, similar to Reed in college. However, Bona's downside on defense is his 13% rebounding rate and he averages more TOs than assists

We drafted Bona using the second round draft pick from the Jaden Springer trade. So basically we traded Springer for Bona.

I’d take Bona over Springer.

do you guys expect him to land a standard rookie scale contract, or a two way deal to begin with ?

what is the expectation regarding his immediate future in 76ers ?

Yeah, you called it, 9' standing reach. Just edited that. But I like picturing the wide guy.

There's only room in my heart for one screen-setter. And that space belongs to Arsalan Kazemi.

I was listening to KOC give props on the Bona pick & he was making the case for Bona playing PF next to Embiid some. He a very versatile defender & a vertical spacer so he could make sense given Embiid’s transformation into a more perimeter oriented offensive player. It would certainly open up that dunker spot lob that Jokic/Gordon feast on.

I’ve been very vocal about reducing Embiid’s burden as a rim protector, rebounder, and screen setter so this is one possible path for that. In reality, it’s probably just another theoretical double big lineup that will never happen.

Yeah in theory I’d love to see it tried, but I just don’t see it being given a chance

The first thing that comes to mind is that Bona needs to play alongside another big power forward or center. Defensively, he reminds me of a young Serge Ibaka—an excellent shot blocker and versatile defender. However, he lacks the size and strength to be an effective rebounder. If we rely on Bona to play center with power forwards like Tobias Harris or Nicolas Batum, who we've used in the past, we’re likely to face rebounding issues.
