Why?? If he’s still here, which I passionately hope isn’t the case, he’ll just give them away. Again. Why in hell would he do anything differently? That’s like, 30 more players he has to have someone else learn about.

Dude’s a total dope.

We don’t have room for a 2nd rounder. We got guys on rookie deals and free agents to sign.

I'm sure GMs are disappointed they couldn't pick a player that sucked in college.

Or .... It's that scouting that helps make that decision. What's worth looking at. What's worth trading for .... Or hey.... Let's get out and punt for the future. Or... "Hey... Wait until after the draft... These players might not get picked.... But we can bring them in during summer league". That's what they are there for... Aggregate information... And they help in advising. It's not like they are here... "Man this is a steal"...."nah let's trade for cash consideration"

Weltman probably didn't think there was a role for him here. Better to get an asset than a cut.

Those second round picks can be valuable. Those swap rights make the 30 and 31 2nds more valuable.

Remember, three crappy 2nds got The Magic a great first round swap with either Phoenix or Washington in 2026.

Weltman just maximizing value of those 2nds.

Better than cash.

Keep in mind, The Magic had some decent Two-Way Players on their Roster last season.

If it was for cash, I'd totally be against.

at least cash would be tangible. these may not convey at all.

Let's say The Magic are good in 2030 and 2031 (Picks in 50's) and The Pelicans are not (Picks in early 30's), Magic can swap for those.

It's also makes the picks more valuable in trades.

He probably thought there was not a place for Reeves and made the move.

but again, we didnt get two 2nd round picks, its the option to swap which may never materialize. so it could be nothing.

I find it hilarious. I really don't get how you can be rational about the position Weltman's put this team and come to the conclusion that he sucks.

well this tells me we arent gonna make any big trades

If we were trying to make a trade for a PG, it would be good to have cheap talent on the becnh to fill roster spots incase we offer a 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 type deal, but, nope, weham again refusing to scout anyone outside the top 20

It was obvious yesterday during the presser that we wouldnt be keeping this pick, with him doing the presser while the 1st round was still going and then when asked about the 2nd round basically said he had to see how things shake out on their board....aka we scouted 20, 18 were drafted, if one of the 2 remaining fall to 47 we will draft them, if not we will trade them away or sell them

PS anyone more annoyed that they traded the pick for 2031+ picks instead of just cash considerations like eveyr other year? like just take the cash, what value does a 2030 2nd round pick hold? you cant be more obviuous that you are just giving the pick away than trading for picks 7 YEARS AWAY (WTF is that??)

It's not being honest with yourself if you love and endorse every Magic move. It comes to the point where it's disingenuous.

Not here for the team, they're here for the action and the potential! Every transaction is a wonderous new possibility.

i think the Pelicans have been better than the Magic over the past decade. its one thing to trade for 1 or 2 more 2nd round picks, but swaps could be nothing.

Yeah... are we a rebulidng team that is gonna lose half its vet players and we need to stock up on young talent?

Seriously, getting upset over 2nd round pick in what js arguably one of the weakest draft since 2000 is just... i dunno.
