Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 3
The reason the NBA is the worst league is because teams routinely do things against their best interests just to appease players. You don’t see these nearly in the same frequency in the NFL, NHL, MLB. Bronn James stinks and the Lakers only took him to appease LeBron. I’m happy he gets to play with his son, but this nonsense will forever be bad for the league. That the players have more power than GMs, coaches, and owners. Not only have power, the stars own them.

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 3
its the 55th pick in a bad draft
like the best players left would rather go undrafted to pick their team
its not a big deal

Poor Justin Edwards. From the summer number one pick to undrafted.

This Bona guy looks like a Capela starter kit. Cue Morey uncreative joke.
Maybe this means Harden is back!

Didn't say this pick in itself was a big deal, but it's a microcosm of how the league functions.
If Lebron was 30 instead of 39 and he demanded the Lakers take Bronny at 17 or he's signing elsewhere, the Lakers would have 100% done it. Because that's just how the NBA is. The stars control everything.

I'm hoping Edwards being a Philly kid entices him to come here, but he probably wants to go to LA or something.

100% agree except I don't give a schiit that he "gets to play with his son". This kid belongs nowhere near the NBA, and is stealing a spot from a more worthy player, whoever he is.
It is only fitting that it is the guy who started all this crap and ruined the league.

Re: Sixers Offseason Thread Part 3
Edwards was already an iffy prospect that probably could have served with another year at Kentucky. His stock solidified as UDFA status with his combine showing. He was way out of shape.
Lane Agility: 12.07 (worst time measured, Clingan second at 12.06)
Shuttle Run: 3.22 (8th worst)
3Q Sprint: 3.18 (middle of the pack)
Standing Vert: 28" (below average)
Max Vert: 32.5" (13th worst)
He's also old for a freshman, will be 21 in his rookie season. However he has a very natural shooting stroke and he's that forever coveted Sixers wing.
Measured at 6'6 at the combine w/o shoes and a 6'10 wingspan. At his very peak he's probably a "3&D (such an ambiguous label) " guy that can attack closeouts.
Probably most interestingly he was ranked third in the nation by RSCI in 2023. Five star recruit just behind Holland and Collier.
Maybe Lowry as the OG local boy can take him under his wing.

It happens in the NFL all the time. Mostly, guys in the later rounds will tell teams not to draft them and instead go the UDFA route. Then you have high profile guys like John Elway and Eli Manning who told teams not to draft them.
Just last year, word was that Matvei Michkov refused to meet with some teams and threatened to stay in Russia if he was drafted by them which helped Philly get him at 7.
MLB is totally different there's 20 rounds and there's a lot of drafting guys you know you can sign. Heck, another Philly example of a guy who forced his way to a different team...JD Drew.

I only wanted the Lakers to pass on Bronny to throw cold water on ESPN's Bona.

RSCI is in his favor though. Ranked only behind Holland and Collier in the class of 2023.
Is this guy moves and shoots like a Kelly Oubre clone?
