Absolutely. See also the Raptors who won the title with zero lottery pick on their roster. But people fall in love with the iea of a quick fix which is why it's so easy to sell tanking for a generational guy as the only way to build a roster. The odds are stacked against Davison just like they are stacked against Walsh and any other guy that wants to carve out a role on an NBA team but they are grinders and those are the ones that have a chance to stick around. You have to give them a chance to develop and time to grind their way into becoming NBA guys. Davison is still super young, he turned 21 less than a month ago, like a third of the players that will be drafted this June are older than him.

I think he deserves another year even if it means investing a full roster spot.You pair him with a NBA center and he can run a competent pick and roll against third units to protect leads in garbage time. He can at least do that while we wait to see if he rounds out the rest of his game. I could never say that about Carsen Edwards, Tremont Waters, Kadeem Allen and a bunch of other late picks in recent seasons.

All fair points.

But I just think that:

a) It might not be fair, but the reality is that a lot of these guys (especially guys drafted in the 50's) don't get 3 seasons with the same team to develop and prove themselves. The Kings parted ways with Queta after 2 seasons. The rockets parted ways with Garuba and Josh Christopher after 2 seasons. Kennedy Chandler, Keon Johnson and Tyty Washington were moved off their team after only like 1 season...Kessler Edwards and Joe Wieskamp didn't last very long with their original team, etc. It is what it is..

b) We've got Pritchard, Springer, Davison..hard to keep all 3 of them on. idk how many teams had 3 guards on their 15 man roster who were all 6'4" or under but I doubt it was very many. Not to mention we also have white and Jrue who are 6'4". That would be 5 guys on our 15 man roster who are 6'4" or under if we keep all these guys and have JD on a standard contract. Teams typically try to have more size than that. I think JD only had a shot at our 15 man roster next season if we part ways with Springer, which doesn't seem very likely since he's under contract and the team just traded for him..

Agree on you point a).

Concerning b), 5 guards on a 15 man roster seems like a decent number to me especially considering Springer, White and Holiday play bigger than their height. Holiday will be 34 next year and will have virtually no offseason (finals + Olympics) so I wouldn't be surprised if he got a bunch of DNP for rest during the early portion of the regular season. That would also increase the need for guard depth. But yeah I wouldn't go beyond two small guards on this roster (Pritchard + Davison most likely).

JD seems like a better prospect than Jaden Springer to me, so I’d like to see him get a full roster contract.

Not to be too negative on Springer, but I think there’s gonna be multiple guys available on draft night at pick 41 that have better nba careers than Jaden Springer.

I am higher on Davison than most. If you look at JDs stats in the G league they are quite impressive, so I’m sure the team is aware of it. JDs work in the G is comparable to Scoot Henderson’s numbers in the G, like I said, I’m sure the team is well aware.

So wait. He is not eligible for another 2 way right?

I think we have a roster spot for him imo.
11guys now. Watson is probably a 2 way?
Get JD on a minimum and sign Tillman. Still room after that for Kornet and or a ring chaser.

According to the tweet you quoted, he has another year of two way eligibility

My understanding is a player can play 3 seasons on two way contracts but only two years with any one team. JD has already played two G league seasons with us and wouldn’t be eligible for a third with US, but I may have misunderstood the rule or the NBA could have changed the eligibility rules. I dunno. I hope we can bring JD back though.

Yes I saw that. I was questioning whether or not that’s the case.

Yes. JD has another year that he can play on a Two-Way, with the Celtics.
They can play 4 years total, but only 3 for any one team.

NBA CBA, 2023
Article II;
Section 11. Two-Way Contracts;
(e) Eligibility;
(iii)

No Team may sign or convert a player to a Two-Way
Contract, or acquire a Two-Way Contract by means of
assignment, if, as a result, the player would or could be under
a Two-Way Contract for any part of more than three (3)
Salary Cap Years with the same NBA Team. For example,
a player who completes a two-year Two-Way Contract with
a Team could not subsequently sign a two-year Two-Way
Contract with that Team.

With the new CBA (2023) its now Max: 3 years with any one Team. 4 years on a Two-Way, across all Teams.
But -- can only Sign up to a 2 year Two-way contract, at a time.

It used to be up to 2 years on a Team, and 3 years Max (across all Teams).
They added a year, in the New CBA (2023).

I wouldn't if I could get with another team, his agent has to gauge interest though. 25/26 will have the same players ahead of him, if they weren't, I could see staying on a two-way being okay. Not only will the guys still be here that are in front of him now, who knows what the draft will hold next season, there could be 2 more pushing him out again. Unless he isn't getting any other offers for a standard contract, this isn't the team to get his chance with.

with all that said, I WANT HIM TO REMAIN A CELTS!!! :pray:

I would definitely sign him to another two way deal. Not sure he has done anything to earn a deal elsewhere. But kudos to him if he can get a guaranteed deal elsewhere.

even a 2way on a team with more uncertainty on the big roster. I don't see him playing if we sit white, jrue, and pritchard. I think joe would try PG JB before that. :o :lol:

I really don't get Springer at this point, but JD, yeah. He has multiple NBA-level skills. Sounds like he's been immature, so let's hope he's outgrown that. He's still 4 years younger than anyone the C's had playing other than garbage minutes in the playoffs.

Springer is still young as well and a career 82% FT shooter so far, so they may still think they can effectively stretch him to the 3.

There are no minutes for Davison in Boston. He should try to catch on with a rebuilding team, like the Nets, or head to Europe.
