The Los Angeles Clippers have had ongoing contract talks with Paul George as they would like to retain him.
“We hope his decision is to stay here," said Lawrence Frank on Thursday in his media availability after the draft. "But also respect if his decision is to opt out. We’ll see how things play out.”
The Clippers and George are at odds over the length of his contract. George is seeking a four-year deal, while the Clippers have reportedly maintained their offer of a four-year deal. Los Angeles previously signed Kawhi Leonard to a three-year, $152 million extension in January.
With George on the precipice of free agency, there are reportedly teams willing to offer him a four-year max. There are also opt-in-and-trade scenarios available to George, but that would have to be determined by Saturday and require the participation of the Clippers.
