I haven't gotten to watch his highlights in full yet but is pre achilles injury Rodney Hood a reasonable comp? That's the first place my mind went after seeing a couple clips.

Also, Bobby needs to control himself, but giving him separate Ts for touching a guy twice in the space of a half second in one altercation is always going to be extremely dumb to me and absolutely not what instant replay is for.

I feel you man, I like Bobby. He's just the one I would sacrifice from our current rotation to bring in a starting two guard that can defend. A Bobby caliber player at guard balances us out more and is a chance at improving our athleticism and ability to defend.

If we have to lean on Bobby a lot as a shot creator it probably means some combo of Dame/Giannis and Khris are hurt and we're **** anyway

If we offload Bobby, the sg he's replaced w/ would need to have some orchestrating abilities. Bruce Brown would be 1 example.

And sans drafting a rotation-ready big man, which we didn't, we have to find one thru our limited FA & trade options, especially after we'd already offloaded Bobby.

If we have Giannis & one of the other 2 core players, we're capable of winning it all. Heck, even Dame & Midds had an outside shot, at least if they had a decent supporting cast. Sometimes that would mean a 3rd guy, like Bobby, or whoever, has to do some creating. So that's worth maintaining, in replacement form at least.

He's got an 8'9" standing reach (if the combine measurement was accurate), in addition to being lean. Beauchamp was lean w/ an 8'10 standing reach. Maybe the way to salvage Beauchamp as an asset is for him to fill out and play him at C.

In all seriousness, off the top of my head I can't think of a C w/ an 8'9" standing reach. And if they did, he was notably strong, which Tyler isn't, & there's no reason to believe he will be. So no chance he's a C if that standing reach is near accurate.

I've heard of one player doing that, & I didn't get it then, let alone how it would be an epidemic. That's even harder to believe. I, & scouts, care about your standing reach more than vert as a bigger guy.

Unfortunately, this is all we have to go by, AFAIK. Optically, he looks closer to a 3, than a 5, between the frame & standing verticality.

Defensively I look at guys like Nance or Looney who can/could use their speed and length on the perimeter to contain. I think standing reach helps a lot more inside where neither dudes are really rim protectors but find ways elsewhere to compete defensively. If he's more of a four, which to me his skillset suggests, and we have Giannis who is basically just a 5 anyway I'm not very concerned with his measurables. I wouldn't be looking forward to many Smith/Bobby lineups though.

I don’t get it either, particularly as a big, but it does seem to be pretty wide spread at this point. Oso is another guy who appears to have done it. Reed Shepperd probably did.

More factually, we can look at guys who’ve been to the combine multiple times, Bona dropped his standing reach this year by 2.5”. Daron Holmes 1”. Terrence Shannon Jr dropped 2”.

Guards likely do it even more often, but I don’t care to keep digging.
