I started university at age 16. I was exposed to a lot of stuff at an early age. Miss me with your "grooming" BS.

The whole concept of individual responsibility seems to have been forgotten by the tut-tutting masses.

And I started university at 17, what the **** does this have to do with anything?

Wanna know who has the responsibility to appropriate
behavior when babysitting kids? The babysitter.

Like what are you even talking about? What is the the missing responsibility here?

OK, genius. When was she his babysitter? How old was he?

Don't know? Then STFU until we know more.

With a 6 year age difference, what woudl be an acceptable age?

24 to 18 (why is an 18 year old being babysat)
20 to 14 (why is a 20 year old grooming a 14 year old)
16 to 10 (this is getting worse)
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

Pedophile? Do you even know the definition of "pedophile"? Obviously not.

My kids are 15 (son) and 17 (daughter). This situation has not arisen in my household, although the Giddey situation has come up (we're all on social media and see all the memes). 100% agree that 23-year-olds taking 18-year-olds to the prom is kinda icky, but that's really none of our business. We're talking about Mormons here. Guess what, they don't have sex outside of marriage. They hang out. They, uh, "soak".

And even is sex was on the table, it wouldn't be illegal (depending on the age on the jurisdiction). In Canada, 16 is the age of consent. Between the 1980s and the 2000s, it was 14 years old. 14! But Harper came in and immediately changed that. And again, we don't know the details of the babysitting, which can potentially change the legal picture - if sex ever happened, which it probably didn't.

So why get on your high horse about something is icky, but not illegal? A lot of stupid and evil stuff happens in the world (Gaza for example). It just amazes me that people get so upset about things that don't really matter.

What do your kids and family have to do with this? Just like going to university at 16, it's irrelevant and no one cares.

I'm familiar with the age of consent laws and its history and it's gross.

The situation with Kyle Filipowski is disturbing for pretty obvious reasons, but what's more disturbing are "ho hum" contrarian reactions, because it's that kind of mentality that ultimately ignores and enables predatory behaviour and situations.

The genocide of Palestinians isn't the issue or topic here. It's a potential predator/pedophile and being concerned with young people and children who are in the middle of those horrifying situations has nothing to do with being on a "high horse".

OK, continue to be horrified by stuff that happens Every. Single. Day.

Mormonism is also a warm, welcoming community. Just let Kyle live his life.

But this also makes me wonder if Raptors were told by his agent NOT to draft Filipowski at 31. And perhaps every other team in the first round.

I grew up with some Mormon friends too and went to many church events and helped out but I never really knew or saw it as a cult as they never once tried to get me in and I just thought it was church. Later I learned the difference when we all teased jokingly about how they can’t drink caffeine. Anyways I dont think the issue with Filipowski had anything to do with his religion but it’s the grooming thing that maybe teams want to stay away from accusations of any serious nature (ie, drama). Heck , the Raptors just signed a 7ft Center that is also Mormon.

Man around 10 yrs back i hooked up with a woman I went to HS with thru Facebook. Went to her church and sensed something was off. It was called "the church of god". Met her parents who I had always knew and admired from back in the day. Found out they had been trying to get her out of that cult (because it's not a real church) for like 15 years. Her parents were church ppl themselves. But like....y'know, normal church.

In anycase I researched church of God and read the whole story. 60 minutes had exposed them during the 90s. So it was basically war at that point. They sent 3 tall men dressed in suits and sunglasses to "revoke her memebership" (she was in deep unfortunately). I made a death threat over the phone to her "pastor" (not a real pastor) after that. They harassed us for a few weeks.

I get the feeling she only hooked up with me to make that huge life change cause things didn't work out for us. Her parents still send me xmas cards tho.

Anycase....church of God is still active in GTA. Specifically at York University and in scarborough. They hide their Name/affiliation and they target west Indian and Phillipino communities. Got about 5 to 10k following in GTA.

Their undercover name is ICC (international Christian church) and/or ICOC (international church of Christ) but it's all traceable to the same source as the "Church of God" cult from the States. They are still on our uni/college campuses ever fall semester under various aliases. One of them is "Rise up". They are very tricky in constantly changing their names when the media catches up to them.

Be honest, if your friend looked like Filipowski's gf you'd be mormon right now

I'm with you that I'd like to hear more details, but c'mon there are 18 year olds entering the NBA and taking advantage of their prestige to score older women, and high school athletes getting action from college girls on recruiting trips. It would be naive to think otherwise.

In a league where Kyrie Irving is venerated by every NBA player despite believing the world is flat, I don't see how this could have made him slide. Danny Ainge is a bishop in the mormon church. Filipowski's family is never hearing from him again.
