Re: Rate the draft
I have it as a strong A-
No 'blow you out of the water' picks, but solid picks that have a lot of potential and a focus on defence and motor. There's a lot to like here.
If you're including getting Mitchell as part of the draft, that moves it up to an easy A.

Re: Rate the draft
Have to wait and see....but raps made the moves that made sense
Mainly players that fit darko style (movement shooting, processing, passing etc) and also address needs like poa defender
While getting younger
I can see gtj leaving for sixers, magic

A- with the chef's kiss in turning useless McDaniels into 2x 2nds and borderline NBA players.

niQ wrote:JaKobe was a BPA type pick. 3+D. Adds movement shooting.
Mogbo adds another wing who defend and distribute. Essentially can pick up when Scottie goes to the bench. Doesn't hurt to draft Scottie's boy.
The Jalen McDaniels trade had to be an A by itself. Can't believe we actually got players PLUS a pick for him.
D Mitchell and J Shead finally addresses our back up PG hole. Both with defensive prowess as well.
Sasha Vezenkov adds another wing. He shoots right?
Ulrich Chomche gives us big, albeit huge project. But we're rebuilding so it is what it is.
We filled a lot of needs in a weak draft.
A+
Vezenkov is a big, not a wing. I’m excited to see what the former euro league mvp can do in Darko’s european inspired system. And yes, he shoots. Agreed with everything else. Raptors dopamine is an apt description.
I believe in Masai.

B+.
Really hoping we could of added a wing with starter potential.
The backlog at the 2 is a issue, but depending what they can do to clarify on that situation..could be a a A-
Just letting GTJ and BB walk seems like a waste of assets.

Seems like every guy we drafted (beside #57 who I like) is smaller than average at his position without an inverse proportional increase skill wise.

Re: Rate the draft
Hard to say how consequential the picks will be in the grand scheme of things, but this was the most exciting draft day we've ever had. We cast a wide net in terms of types of prospects we selected. Summer League, the 905, and even just garbage time in games should be a lot more fun to watch.

Re: Rate the draft
Jakobe Walters- C
Oldish skinny freshman who was supposed to be a shooter with bad shooting splits. Maybe that can be explained as he was doing a lot of movement shooting and shooting off the dribble, but does that mean he was extra poor at those to drag down his set shooting or was he equally as poor as a set shooter?
Very aggressive player though which I love with excellent ability to get to the line and good offensive rebounding rates, but poor rim finishing.
Defensively his steal rate is decent, but his overall dBPM is very meh.
Mogbo - B-
He seems to do a lot of things well, but he's old and old guys should do things well as they probably won't develop as much as younger guys. I love the passing ability, but an old guy who can't shoot is a red flag. Also, we could have had a guy named Kyle and I don't think the Mormon thing makes him a bad teammate. We'll see how he does, but I think he was likely to be a good rotational player at a young age with upside and very few guys in this draft could claim that.
Rest of picks- A. Would be A+, but let's be honest they were late picks in weak draft so what are the actual odds of them being useful NBAers?

Re: Rate the draft
I said b minus.
It's pretty obvious the agenda was to go out and get dawgs because of what Pat Beverly said, which is already a compromise in talent and BPA logic. Also Mogbo-Scottie's friendship clearly influenced the pick and there were heated arguments in the draft room as a result. Then the late pick for Masai to do some BAL PR work was harmless, but still an agenda-based decision. That drags the grade down.
The good stuff is that they really only need one rotation player out of every draft and there are a lot of options now. Not only that but Veznekov could work out. Mitchell could work out. We knew McDaniels didn't.
Also, we're drafting in the dead zone. No one knows who will be good or bad, including the guys that are doing the drafting. Getting one hit out of this range would be better than expected, and there are now 3 for sure guys getting contracts next year.

Re: Rate the draft
Pretty much my sentiment as well, I think Masai also sacrificed that 31st pick knowing Scottie may have a tough year ahead with us potentially being the lotto range again, having your best friend with you in the trenches can make things easier to swallow. I have 0 knowledge about this year's class, but from what I see and read of Ja'kobe, he seems like he's going to be good. Let's hope for the bestATLTimekeeper wrote:I said b minus.

Nice little group of players, which bodes well for internal development and battling for playing time. Haven't been this excited since we had the bench mob.
