Such an important point. When this organization prioritizes the develop of particular players, it likes to bring in mentors. Whine all you (not you, Chuck) want to about the Thad deal, but Scottie was on his way to a ROY season and Masai wanted to bring in a big vet who liked to pass the ball to serve as a mentor. (Also since we were a playoff team, we needed 3-4 depth behind the oft-injured OG).

IQ is on record as saying he wants to play defence like Jrue Holiday. But wanting to, and having an understanding of the necessary mentality to, are two different things. We certainly didn't see any of that after the trade. I don't expect Davion and Shead to "mentor" IQ in this regard, but they can certainly inspire/push him.

61% at the rim for a smaller guard is crazy good. Especially for one that doesn't rely on his 3pt shot to create space.

The more I sit with this pick, the more I like it

Houston players are very reliable.

Love this kid! Hard nosed defender, VERY SMART offensive player, can score in a variety of ways, hustled hard, and has a strong work ethic.

He's gonna be good. Got a good feeling about him.

I said going into round 2 that I wouldn't be upset if the Raps picked Shead at 31, even if it seemed like a bit of an overdraft. But the fact that they got another player at 31 and STILL got Shead is amazing!

I don't necessarily think he'll be the best of the newly acquired and drafted players for the Raptors, but pretty sure he's my favourite. This guy's play style and mentality is everything you want a player to be.

This is the way stuff should go. We work out the kid and he meets coach and watches film. The team was excited about him.

Such a high character kid and just a humble guy who is an absolute dog on the court.

Kinda cracked me up that he called Masai "their president". Something about him being laid back and kind of soft spoken, humble like, and his demeanor on the court being all out aggressive and balls to the wall, is really endearing. I hope he sticks.

Good luck to him. We needed this type of 2 way dog mentality at the pg position. He will outplay 45

Watching highlights I love this kid. Little Kyle Lowry.

One thing that I love about our FO is they will never stray from high-character guys.

Seems like a player that is a solid 3 point shot away from being a rotation NBA player.

I love watching a guy fight through screens, moving laterally, throw his body around, and give it his all on defense. I think he plays bigger than his size. Yes he's short but he affects shooters by constantly being in tight in front of them (kind of like Lowry used to do).

Let's keep it 100% real.

Shead could come here an play for toronto. Shock everyone and thrive off the bench. Proceed to go on the best 3 game shooting streak in the history of the conference finals in his third season. Then outplay one of the best point guards in this history of the league in the finals. Ultimately sealing a team chip with a 12 point 3 assist 4th quarter in game 6 of the finals.

These idiots gonna say "he's not a real point guard" and harass his wife on Instagram.

I'm not kidding when I say NO MATTER WHAT Shead does he will become a lightning rod of hate for casual basketball fans in toronto because they don't know anything.

Love the pick. I really liked him in March Madness, and he seems like a really humble guy who wants to keep improving. #45 picks rarely make it, but he's a guy I'd love to cheer for.
