Instaface at SOSH breaks down the Celtics Free Agent Center Possibilities...
Clearly not going to entertain anything close to a Vet Minimum offer:
Jonas Valanciunas
Mo Wagner
Isaiah Hartenstein
James Wiseman (RFA: DET)
Probably looking for bigger role / longer-term commitment, but you never know:
Jalen Smith (24, 6'10" 215) (player option to return to IND)
Bol Bol (24, 7'3" 220)
Goga Bitazde (25, 6'11" 250)
Jaxson Hayes (24, 7'0" 220) (player option to return to LAL)
Rim Protector KP-type possibilities:
Kevin Love (36, 6'8 251) (player option to return to MIA)
Andre Drummond (31, 6'11 279)
Dario Saric (30, 6'10 225)
Mason Plumlee (34, 6'10 254)
DeAndre Jordan (36, 6'11 265)
Alex Len (31, 7'0 250)
Cody Zeller (31, 6'11 240)
Switchable Horford-type possibilities:
Daniel Theis (32, 6'8 245) (I know, I know)
Drew Eubanks (27, 6'9" 245) (declined option)
Bismack Biyombo (32, 6'8" 255)
Tristan Thompson (33, 6'9 254)
Jericho Sims (25, 6'10 245) (NYK team option, but could drive the price up)
Not sure they're NBA players but I'm going to Name Some Guys:
Thomas Bryant (26, 6'10 248)
Mo Bamba (26, 7'0 231)
Sandro Mamukelashvili (25, 6'11 240) (RFA: SAS)
JaVale McGee (36, 7'0 270)
Moses Brown (24, 7'2 245)
Boban Marjanovic (36, 7'4 290) (might be broken)
Mike Muscala (33, 6'10 240) (waived by DET in Feb, nobody picked him up)
Damian Jones (28, 6'11 245)
Udoka Azubuike (25, 6'10 280)

Bryant they liked in the past.
Saric, Bitadze, Theis, Plumlee, would be my other choices.

Would love for the Celtics to pick up Mo Bamba on a vet min, have him turn into a star player and listen to Philly fans bitch for the 10 years about how he did nothing in Philly

I think he would be a good get actually.
Do it Brad.
Goga would be even better I think, but maybe a minimum is not realistic.

What is the longest number of years a minimum contract can be?

Re: Free Agent, Trade & Extensions Thread, 2024-25
IMO, there is only a need to sign a FA big if we don't bring back the bigs from last year. Tillman and Kornet are FA..Queta has a team option. If we bring all 3 of them back, all this talk about FA big signings is a moot point. Because we'd have 5 bigs, plus Watson who is more of a 4 but can play small ball 5..
If things fall through with Queta, Tillman or Kornet, sure let's explore possibilities with guys like Theis, Plumlee, etc.
But my preference would be to bring back all of those bigs - Queta, Tillman and Kornet.
Kind of think Queta may ask the team to decline his option so he can sign elsewhere - with a team that may offer more in terms of contract length, money and playing time. After all, he is clearly the last guy in the pecking order among our 5 bigs..once we got Tillman last year he was glued to the bench..so he might not want to stick around if Tillman and Kornet are both resigned..

Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

I agree with that. And really both those guys are as good or better than dudes that we could sign.
I do wonder about Kornet getting offers beyond what the Cs want to pay though. I assume they will sign Tillman given that they traded real assets for him.

It's Saric, Eubanks, Plumlee or Bitadze, the rest are equal or even worse than kornet.

Plumlee could be interesting here with his passing ability.

Cs will ONLY need another big man if Luke or X or both leave in free agency.
Cs will be fine with what they have right now.

It sucks because it feels like such a weakness though. Overplaying Horford could become a problem. I think Kornet and Tillman are very situational. It might be enough to get by and have a good enough record until Porzingis returns...but fingers crossed even then.
To Kornet's credit he was pretty good for a long stretch this season. If we bank on him playing that well again we might be fine. Then he had some injury that derailed that progress...but he looked like a legit backup.

It would be too unfair if the Cs don't have a weakness.
The new CBA is just doing what it's supposed to do and that is to prevent a few teams dominating the league.
What makes me confident about the Cs this coming season is a number of Celtic players will be better.
JT, Sam, and maybe a few more will play better this coming season.
I'm also expecting the team to be sharper and more efficient.
The big man will only be a major problem if KP will be hurt again in the playoffs.

KP doesn't get injured than I can see the bold because he'll see that minutes will be at a minimum. With KP possibly out until January, I think this is the time to throw Queta in the mix from the start.
All I kept seeing in the draft chat was height and wingspan. Queta is 7ft with a 7'4" wingspan!! You can't teach that.
I've been saying that I believe the staff has a game plan for Queta and it will be a RWill type gameplan. The difference when they had RWill was there was no other gameplan. Imagine a team that can not only bomb 3's from all 5 guys on the court but could also bring in a guy who can create havoc with the PnR? You would cause teams to completely switch up their defense for those moments. And they could do that when they bring in Sam and PP who will simply keep teams honest at the arc. A lineup of Queta-JB-Sam-White-Pritchard??? Replace JB with JT or Jrue with White??? Lob city failed IMO because their superstars were the dunkers and the rest were just role players who could shoot and lob it up. It would be crazy if this staff can't incorporate 15-20mpg for Queta to wreak havoc above the rim each game. You have not only multiple shooters but FOUR players who can drive to the basket and cause the defense to defend the drive leaving Queta free for lobs. Smart was very good at finding RWill for lobs, but he wasn't a good penetrator, he couldn't finish at the rim. Teams were prepared for his mini fadeaways. Check out the heavy minute lineups in 21,22 with RWill in there. The weak link was Smart. There wouldn't be a weak link with Queta in the lineup because those guys can drive and Sam and Pritchard could shoot.

One more thing on my above post. I wouldn't go double big with AL and Queta.

Nuggets were done when Bruce and Jeff left in free agency.
