IQ contract

Post#1 » by Luv those Knicks » Fri Jun 28, 2024 3:46 pm

So, 5 years 175. Wow. That should start at about 30 million with 8% raises.

I feel bad for Raptor fans and I'm glad we traded him. Am I wrong?

I am old enough to remember the Raps fans mocking us for giving OG 5/212.

I’ll always be an IQ fan, except when he plays the Knicks. To me, he’s similar to an OG type. He’s gonna be able to play off a star, but he’s not gonna be the star.

Go get your money IQ!

I'm waiting for somebody to tell me I'm wrong. It's 21% of the salary cap, which maybe falls to 20% next year, 19% in 3 years, etc. Raptors are rebuilding, they have 3 expensive players going forward, Quick, RJ & Scottie Barnes. It's not a bad key-3, but I don't think it's great. On the plus side, they're 22, 23 and 25, so it's a young trio.

Could they have done better in free agency? Quick shot 39% from 3 last year. Where does he rank among NBA PGs? 12? 15? Anyone?

Play-in treadmill team for the foreseeable future. They messed up with their rebuild... started too late.

I love how Toronto fans were trying to troll us for the OG contract and the Mikal trade, but then they get hit with the Woj Bom of $175m for IQ and potentially $270m for Barnes... oof

It’s a fair contract for a very talented and young starting PG. We couldn’t afford to give him that to be a backup though. It’s a good thing we moved him and got something back for him (a great player in OG and shedding a bad contract of our own) otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to afford to keep him

I think they need a point forward. The stuff Zion flashed. I wouldn't be surprised if they're positioning to make a run at him at some point. I think Zion would work well on that team. IQ is a combo guard. He won't wow you with his court vision.

Initially I did not understand the interest in DDV last year with IQ here but I could eventually see that it probably made sense to move IQ since we would not have the role or money he wanted. Investing 20-25 million in your backup guard seemed like too much to me at the time. I never could have imagined that he would come close to receiving a 5year/$175 million deal.

Congratulations to IQ. I'm looking forward to seeing his development as a starting point guard in this league but bringing in DDV for 1/3 of the money was a great move by the organization. I just wish they had the OG deal ready to go that summer too.

This front office has been clutch in their recent trades and transactions. We've dodged some bullets.

I felt like Toronto was trying to develop Barnes into a point forward type of player. I actually thought he and IQ would be a good fit prior to the trade last season and I still think they have potential together.

I love IQ and wish him all the best, but...

How many of you would prefer we built around him instead? After all, he's now earning more than Brunson!

Between IQ, Barnes, RJ that's a lot of money being spent. Guess that's the core?

Good point. DiVincenzo is probably / often looked like the better player too.

Well, guess he was right to bet on himself and not extend prior to last season.
