Fortunately Landry Fields is GM of the Hawks and not the Celtics.
The Stupid is strong with that organization...

JT Thor is probably a bust, but I wouldn't mind if the Celts bring him in for a summer league or training camp invite...

I am trying to figure out what teams would be willing to sign Kornet or Tillman that would be out of our Price range. I know it only takes one.
2 things need to go.. my lack of spell check and Joe..

If you're doing that, you must be so bored right now.

On the other hand, have to accept the realization that Porzingis is and always be a wildcard health wise and you have to prepare for him missing not just regular season games, but playoff games.
We know what Kornet is and isn't at this point. He's proven that he IS someone you can use to soak up minutes at the 5 spot in the regular season. He IS NOT someone you want playing minutes in the playoffs. So IDK, I think I'm inclined to gamble on someone else that maybe has the upside to hack it in the playoffs if it comes to that.
What is this based on? I thought Kornet proved that he is playable in the playoffs. He was effective in the Miami series and he was effective in the Cleveland series.
Had some issues in the Pacers series because the Pacers are the perfect storm of being a bad matchup for him (they play VERY fast and have a 5 who steps out and shoots lots of 3's and no one else Kornet could really cover since they play 5 out w/ all 5 guys who can shoot from 3)
Then vs Dallas, he didn't play so we don't know if he would have been effective or not. But Mazzulla said he went with Tillman because Tillman's familiarity with defending the Mavs from going against them so much in Memphis. But that probably would have been a matchup Kornet could handle since Dallas plays slower and their 5's don't shoot 3's.
Indy is basically the only team in the league where Kornet is not a good matchup. And we have Tillman who can be plugged in for that matchup.
Not really seeing the need to add another big - just resign Tillman and Kornet. And pick up Queta's option for additional depth/size. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. This roster works really well on the court and has great vibes off of it - I'd rather not mess with that unless it's *really* necessary..
Lastly, I'm also not sure I buy the notion that someone can be good enough to play in the reg season but not the playoffs. Like, if they can play, then they can play.. like, Kornet played 18 mins and was a +6 in the game during the reg season where we beat Minnesota. But you're telling me that he's unplayable if we faced that same Minnesota team in the playoffs? I don't think I buy that..
Agree to just sign Kornet and X and pick up Queta's option
Just depends on what other teams will offer these two. If it is a vet min, they will stay. Otherwise, they are probably gone.
I would prioritize Kornet
If one or both are gone I would try getting Jaxson Hayes
He has some potential

Re: Free Agent, Trade & Extensions Thread, 2024-25
Cs really only need bigs when it's Embiid and Jokic they're facing.
Big bodies similar to Al and Tillman is what you need to slow down those MVP bigs.
Tall and light bigs will just get abused.
Small ball Centers like Theis is also not the answer.
Al will still be important to the Cs in the playoffs.
Guess it will depend on how Q and X will develop this coming season.
There's really not a big man out there, for the vets minimum, that's going to be as good as Al Horford.

Let’s just get bol bol and have him bother shots inside. Low risk high reward. He’s probably cheaper than Luke.

Re: Free Agent, Trade & Extensions Thread, 2024-25
A few question/educated guesses by our Celtic brain trust on here.
1) Who will get signed first, White, Tatum, Hauser, Kornet, Queta or Tillman?
2) Do any decide of the above sign elsewhere?
3) What are your personal feelings about the odds of each combing back?
My answers: (I reserve the right to be totally off and out of my mind crazy)
Hauser will have his option picked up first to give them more time to work on a new contract. We know that since he is on a team option deal, he will at least be back next season. I give this part a 100% chance of happening. However, the odds of a new contract and the dollar amount expected are all over the place as I read the comments on the board. I think anything more than 4 for 28 and Brad lets him play out this season and tries again during the season or next off season and if not signed lets him walk. That's more than Pritchard will make and has Sam as the 7th highest paid on the team.
White will sign next and get his full max with us. I give this a 95% chance of happening.
Tatum will sign next, and I give this a 100% chance.
Tillman will sign next, for something around 4 for 20 range. I give this an 85% chance of happening. My reasoning is that Brad didn't trade 2 2nd round picks for a half season rental. Tillman knows he is going to get playing time here as an added bonus to the raise of almost 3X his salary last season.
Queta's option will be picked up next season. 100% chance on this one. They will wait on an extension for him to see what happens with Kornet, but as with Hauser, he will be back next season, and I think this one will eventually be on an extended contract around 3 for 15. Big time raise for Queta with the possibly of more playing time will sway him to sign.
Kornet will be last, and I think will resign, mainly because of playing time available to him that he may not get elsewhere. Question is amount of contract. I'm thinking anything more than 4 for 24 and Brad lets him walk and pivots the backup center focus to Queta and a minimum salary 3rd /4th team backup. That amount would put him as the 9th highest paid on the team, just behind Pritchard, which is where he is slotted as importance to the team since the option of Queta taking his minutes is there.

Come on, NBA, this lack of action before free agency starts is so so lame. DO SOMETHING.

If the Celtics are able to resign Kornet and Tillman then their off-season is done with the exception of trying to lock up players to extensions and looking at two-way players

We're going to hear about Hauser and Queta soon. My hope is they decline both options and sign them to longer homery deals.
