I think Jalen superbly filled a need while Isaiah Jackson needed time to grow into being a backup 4/5. Add in the additions of Obi Toppin, Jarace Walker, and even Freeman, and I just don’t see a huge need to spend good money to bring Jalen back.

Best of luck wherever you play next Stix. Was enjoyable to see you earn your way in the nba.

I like Stix and thought his post-game photo-bombing showed a big sense of humor. I assume he'll get an offer for more than we want to pay and his leaving will open a much needed roster spot. but the draft didn't give us a development center (unless Freeman is a small ball 5) and I've lost confidence in OT. if we're shopping for a free agent third string center, I'd want a vet wide-body on a near minimum deal.

Feel bad for Smith. From being promised the starting 4-spot to being....well, not a priority in two seasons must be tough. It was almost like the team saying we will treat you nice when we need you, but otherwise...not so much? I dunno. It just strikes me somewhat wrong. Of course we don't know everything that went into it.

I'm still not sure about the reason for his lack of minutes late in the season/playoffs this year. I remember something about him having an injury, but don't really remember any details.

Meh? I think both sides helped each other when it was beneficial to do so, and now both Jalen and the Pacers probably have different needs? Jalen needs a major role to play, and Indy has Siakam, Turner, Jackson (ready to play), Walker to develop, and maybe Toppin, too. There’s just not a big enough role for Jalen. The Siakam re-signing just clogs his role?

Mostly I think it was just a natural “shrinking” of the rotation, and McConnell, Obi, and Sheppard were playing so well, and we couldn’t afford not to play Myles and Siakam as much as possible, and as soon as Jalen had difficulty producing, it was easy to cut him back? Jackson got some defensive situational minutes and produced, so he got a bit more, and it was just no time left for Jalen in an 8 man type playoff rotation.

A lot of Jalen comments here I agree with. To add my own I feel like he’s still growing in both his mental/competitive state and his physical maturity.

The Pacers were a great opportunity for him to get off the Suns bench and start growing his game. I thought he shined at times but hasn’t grown to be more than a backup. He fit right in and it benefited both parties.

His health and durability concerns me with the back issues that he had. His defense concerned me more as he was pulled in the playoffs. His offense is his best asset currently and the Pacers are more in need of a defensive Center with plenty of offensive talent.

I think he could possibly grow into a starter role but not here. So I think it’s time for him to continue his development in another organization. Good luck to Stix in his next opportunity.

I think there's a non-zero chance that Newton gets a standard contract so OT, Q, and Freeman get two ways

He's as good as gone. I can see him signing with the 76ers, probably not making a lot more than he would have but maybe 2 or 3 years.

Spotrac is now showing Jalen as having opted out, a UFA with a $9,583,169 cap hold.

Keith Smith missed the reports that Jalen hadn’t yet decided. We’ll know by the end of today for sure.

if what I read online is correct, KBrown has a 250k guarantee beginning at the start of the season and becomes fully guaranteed on 1/10/25. I'd not rush to sign JJ as we could see what if anything Brown provides up to his guarantee date and we'd have the option to waive him in January and sign JJ then,

Yup,.. seeing a ton of articles (literally a couple dozen) about him not exercising his option, but they all point back to the original post by Scotto. So, no news there yet,...

Though,.. apparently the fan pages have been busy,... so far (without being officially a FA),... he's being courted & in conversation with Pistons, 76er's, Mav's, Lakers, Charlotte, Orlando, Toronto, & OKC,... even though the negotiation period hasn't started yet,....

And this is what I hate about the NBA free agency. I assume his list of suitors is mostly media driven since supposedly teams can’t say they want him yet ?? If teams are actually putting ideas into agents heads then that’s not right. So currently June 30th starts legal tampering? Then July 6th starts signing period.

Why not just skip the discussion period and free agency process starts the 30th. Noon of the 30th Agents send a form message to all teams on behalf of their client’s preferred destination stating the minimum salary acceptable, preferred range of contract length, clients will not play for this team notation, and to contact me if interested. Noon of the 30th media is banned from free agency reporting and speculation until July 2nd 1pm.

Teams then have until July 1st noon to show interest in their target players by messaging Agents with a form message if interest in their client. No verbal communication allowed yet between Agents and teams.

Agents gather information forms received back from teams and discuss with client briefly ranking and forming plan for situations the player wants. July 2nd free agency contract execution starts between teams and agents verbally.

By July 2nd the teams know which free agents don’t want to play for them. The Agents know which teams to contact in order of their clients preference. July 2nd media can resume announcing, reporting, speculating, and false reporting

We all know that signings usually occur in priority order of

Top free agents signing their big contracts first
Most sought after free agents signing to a new team
A few exceptions of free agents in big demand weighing out their options or waiting for teams to work out sign and trades.
Teams signing back their own free agents

Then sometimes weeks later all the filler/role players are signed to finish the process.

My whole point of this rant is that:
I want a structured period and process of fair and controlled team and agent interaction
I want a system where cheating teams are easily detected and harshly fined
I dislike media speculation and involvement in the free agency process until a deal is finalized. Let the teams, agents, and players have their time to negotiate their futures without media pressure, intimidation, or interference.
I do feel that players can recruit other players secretly between themselves and it not be collusion however if media, teams, agents, or players find out and get involved or report it they are fined heavily.
