Jazz Will Listen To Offers For Lauri Markkanen

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Jun 29, 2024 12:49 pm

On SportsCenter, ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski said the Utah Jazz will listen to offers for All-Star forward Lauri Markkanen. The Jazz were aggressively pursuing trades for Mikal Bridges, before he was traded to the New York Knicks. Now, Utah may pivot towards continuing a rebuild.

Wojnarowski indicated it would take a massive offer for a team to acquire Markkanen. The Jazz aren't necessarily shopping their All-Star forward, but could move him if blown away with a trade package.

In two years with the Jazz, Markkanen has blossomed into an All-Star. After winning Most Improved Player in 2023, Markkanen averaged 23.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game last season. He was on the cusp of a 50/40/90 shooting season too, hitting at 48.0/39.9/89.9 clip.

Markkanen's contract is fully guaranteed for just over $18 million for the upcoming season. Speculation has been that Utah could use cap space to renegotiate-and-extend Markkanen's deal, should they not use that space to acquire players.

They're going to want a lot and you're going to need to pay him. Don't know who goes for this with new York off the board, golden state?

Philly could trade McCain + picks including the potentially juicy Clipper picks.

Houston has the PHX picks + young prospects they could potentially deal

OKC always has a warchest of picks and prospects

4 FIRSTS

-1 bull **** 1st (least favorable of Philly, OKC, Houston in 2026; so it’s a borderline 2nd rounder)
-1 unprotected Clipper pick in 2028
-1 unprotected Philly pick (likely in 2029, but due to their encumbered [protected] 2025 and 2027 picks, they can really only promise one of their own 1st rounders due to the Stepien Rule)

That’s basically 2 firsts. Swaps are cool but they are sweeteners in this context. Gonna have to do WAY better to even begin a conversation. Then again, if Philly offered super swaps (where they take back the worst pick of anything the Jazz own) on all years (~4) maybe that moves the needle significantly.
