Re: 2024 Offseason Thread
Next year we can have as much as 80 million in cap space depending on what we do this offseason, only LaMelo, Miller, Grant Williams, Mark Williams, Salaun and Nick Smith will be on the books with team options on Cody Martin, Nick Richards, and Micic

I certainly hope we don't cut Jackson, either send that dude somewhere and get another asset out of it or just keep him on the roster.

I was thinking maybe they wouldn't want to waste any minutes on him and waiving him would open up a roster spot if they want to sign someone, but idk. Cap number is the same if they keep him or waive him since hes fully guaranteed. Trading him seems ideal.

Re: 2024 Offseason Thread
Okay, I've rebounded from that terrifying draft pick. Thor is gone so maybe we don't value that archetype and see something more in Saluan.
I happen to love the Reggie Jackson move.
The Pistons ate 12 million (double Reggie) in order to purchase 3 second round picks. Granted, one is a Raptors 2025 which might convey just outside the first round, but we sold high on just a sliver of cap space. Reggie is as useful as THJ, if not more so because Reggie can run point.
Maybe they can play hardball with Miles without low balling. With guys like Lauri Bird hitting the market, you have to keep Miles as a baseline salary for matching purposes. Just can't lose him for nothing or you have to gut a roster when a star becomes available.
Hayward and Terry were the top paid players before Miles' unrestricted free agency.
LaMelo got one of those slots. I like to think of him aa a long term upgrade to Gordon.
Miles can get the other. I think he's an upgrade over Rozier as a third option long term (after LaMelo & Miller).
Hopefully LaMelo learned not to be a priss and Miles understands showboating and hotdogging is the stuff of loser DNA. It's not about iso. Treat that shot clock with a little more care. He should know by now.
There are plenty of movable contracts/cap outside LaMelo, Miles, Miller, Mark to make a consolidation move.
I kind of feel like we're more likely to convert cap into players through trades. And I sense we could either upgrade players, consolidate quality, or take on money for draft capital similar to the Reggie Jackson move.
As much as I love Lauri, I prefer aiming for a star further down our timeline, after we miss the playoffs this season and thereby regain control of 4 of our own first rounders.
Add 2 distant firsts from the Heat and Mavs, and we can extend an evaluation of our young core. They haven't played together much nor built the requisite chemistry that comes from continuity in lineups and rotations.
Who knows what we have? I'd like to sign Miles, find out, then sell high on some players 1-2 years down the line for a star, maybe using Miles' contract as a baseline, maybe not.
I happen to think Miles will work to make himself irreplaceable because he wants to be here. And I think the chemistry he developed with LaMelo is worth something to the organization. And I believe they're super tight.
In the interim (while gearing up for a star), I would be open to swapping out contracts like Martin, Richards, Micic, Bertans, Bryce, That seems a better use of cap then cutting off Miles and trying to overpay some mediocre free agent.

This is one of the few times I can say I'm rooting for Philly. Them signing George is the best outcome for us.

Yes, Sixers poaching PG really checks the bids that will surely set the market for Bridges. One less big bidder, plus Pistons looking to pucker up.
JB withdrew his name from their coaching search.

Re: 2024 Offseason Thread
Just hypothetical say we actually had enough money to offer PG the max.
Do you think he would have seriously considered us in FA?
Not sure if we would have enough to sell him outside of Melo/Miller tbh. The location is also a tough sell, not much in Charlotte for PG business wise. Still fun to think about tho lol

Maybe if Melo had stayed healthy he would be at that Haliburton stage and people would consider coming to Charlotte. Poor guy just can't stay healthy.

Even with a healthy lamelo he wouldn't consider us. The teams he is considering, especially the Magic are one player away. I don't trust Embiids health but the Magic are good, young, rapidly improving, and I think they'd give Boston a run for their money with him.

We can't trade a first rounder next year because we owe it to the Spurs, but if we miss the playoffs we keep it and it turns into 2 seconds. Then we have all our picks for the next 7 years and can offer four first rounders in a trade (highly unlikely unless a player of Luka, Edwards or SGA's caliber demands a trade to charlotte

I'd much rather make the playoffs and convey the 14th pick in the draft than miss it and pick 10th. At some point we have to build something good grief.

That seems like regaining control of just 1 of our picks. Where did 4 come from?

You can trade your own picks up to 7 years from now, but never picks in consecutive years, so 4 picks and 3 swaps is like the max for your own picks. Like next offseason... we can trade 2026, 2028, 2030, 2032 first round picks if we wanted
If you owe a future pick, you can't do that. Right now we can only trade 2027, 2029, 2031 first round picks. So only 3

Brother most of us do, which is why the Salaun pick was a shot of reality, I thought we would try to win this season

No one we could have conceivably drafted, other than Sheppard maybe, would have helped us this season.
If we want immediate help it needs to come via trade or free agency.
I'm with you guys though, I'm beyond tired of losing.

The Magic? No way in hell man. Their whole offseason ended when Monk gave the Kings a hometown discount. That's where they're at.
They're behind the Kings. They lucked out with Banchero, winning the lottery. Wagner is meh despite the fanfare. Suggs is a role player albeit elite one.
They do not even slightly resemble the Celtics headlined by Tatum and Brown when they were playing. 500 ball halfway through the season before they bought in under Udoka.
