Ok, sounds good I guess. Lock him down on a team friendly contract before he destroys the league next year

But can Queta resist the allure of the Knicks and their decades long dominance of the NBA?

They need bigs but can only dole out minimums….assuming they are hardcapped at the first apron. If they manage to add enough salary to the Bridges trade they could be hardcapped at the second apron, and in that case I would assume they sign Hartenstein.
Also, **** the Knicks.

Hate it if they don’t bring him back. I get the idea, though. We would have only had early bird rights next year and I think he could get minutes in 24-25.

What can we offer him $ wise? 140% raise from last year's min?

I may be overhyping Queta but if they have no serious plans on bringing him back there must have been a disconnect at some point. I'd like to see what he can do with minutes but if there's a problem with him then I wish him the best.

Per sources, the Celtics have declined Neemias Queta’s option, creating an opening for Queta to later agree to a multi-year deal with Boston in free agency.

The way Himmelsbach phrased his tweet, the purpose of the decline is to create an opening to re-sign Queta. Unless I'm misinterpreting, this is a step on the way to a long term deal.

Teams are eligible to sign their own free agents using the Non-Bird exception for a salary starting at 120% of the player’s previous salary, 120% of the minimum salary, or the amount of a qualifying offer (if the player is a restricted free agent), whichever is greatest. Contracts can be for up to four years, with 5% annual raises.

Don't know which of the three applies/greatest.

I'd assume non-bird? We had the dude on the roster for like 2 months. He was on the cheap 2yr/$2,278,223. So, vet 120% of that is better, but not even vet min. I assume we'll go 120% if we can.

Also, Spotrac is paid now for details? Lame.

Queta update from Adam Himmelsbach in the Globe:

Celtics pick up Sam Hauser’s player option; decline Neemias Queta’s option with hope to keep him around

The Celtics also declined third-string center Neemias Queta’s $2.2 million option, sources said, but that does not mean his time in Boston has come to an end. Sources said both sides have interest in Queta’s return on a multi-year deal.

If they have plans for Queta to play in summer league, the deal probably would be worked on pretty quickly.

Queta is likely gone. Young 7 footers with no health issues and decent skills are in short supply.

They wouldn't have declined his option if they knew he would just walk.

This is standard practice across the league. And this is also why teams build good relationships with agents. They were already in talks for a bigger, longer deal even prior to deadline day for POs/TOs. This is the similar path Sam Hauser took two years ago. Team likely promised him a bigger role too next season (esp if Kornet is gone) with the KP situation and Horford's load management.

Cs can still match in the event there's no *wink-wink* deal already in place prior to declining option. Which I'm quite optimistic they already have.

If Brad can get him on a 3 year team controlled contract, I'll be hyped. Get that PLUS resigning Tillman, I'll be ecstatic. Both Tillman and Queta are good passers. They'd be well covered at the 3rd and 4th big man spots.

If Queta wants to bet on himself here it’s unlikely but not impossible that he becomes the starting center on future championship Celtic teams.

There really was nothing to worry about. Declining his option was a formality and part of the process of re-signing him to a longer deal.
