Re: Welcome to Boston, JD Davison!
I really value JD as a pass first PG. There are roughly 22 point guards in the NBA with an assist % above 30% and JD is one of them, and he’s barely even played. I hope we keep him.

Feels like this coming season could be a fairly significant tanking season if several teams decide to “Lagg for Flagg” — JD might get some real opportunity in such a world. I personally like his game/potential and at this point hope they roster him, but if he ends up on the open market instead I’ll understand and trust Brad Stevens and his vision. Zoya gave his life for it!

Re: Welcome to Boston, JD Davison!
The problem with Davison is that he is a dribble first point guard, not a pass first point guard.

Don’t quite remember year 1, think then too, but wasn’t he one of the leaders in assists this season in the G? I think he led SL in assists. He’s been racking up the assists in the league he plays in, that’s all you can ask for.

Re: Welcome to Boston, JD Davison! – (Celtics Do Not Offer QO = UFA)
That stinks.
In the post draft presser, Brad said we were really trying to bring JD back “in some capacity” which we later parsed to mean a third year on a 2way. But JD led the G league in total points and assists last season and, I assume, felt he’d done everything at that level to get a chance somewhere at the NBA level.
I’m bummed because I was really excited at the possibility of Davison running a few fastbreaks with JT and JB on the wings and also, in the half court, using JT in off ball actions with a pass first PG who can get JT some assisted buckets, a deficient area last season. But over the entirety of last season, JD Davison played literally zero minutes with JT so obviously the coaches didn’t share my excitement at the possibilities.
Lastly, JD just may not be a great fit personality wise (not to speculate) but he was suspended last year for breaking team rules in Maine and maybe the dude has some growing up to do, I dunno. But I enjoyed watching him play and I completely wish him the best. I think he’s an NBA player, so to spend two yrs developing him and not at least get a chance to trade him for a second or something, it’s disappointing. But, oh well

Europe beckons, but he may not be good enough for Euroleague.

Re: Welcome to Boston, JD Davison! – (Celtics Do Not Tender QO = UFA)
I've read the opinion that since he's already had two years in Maine, the only qualifying offer the Celtics could tender to Davison is a standard contract. That's why he didn't get the QO. IF this is accurate then Davison is not necessarily gone; it's just more temporarily confusing contract stuff. In short, the Celtics may still want him back for one more year on a 2 way.

Selfishly I'd love to have him back on a 2-way. Think his opening on the big club would be 2025-26 if Scheierman shows enough Pritchard-esque deep threat prowess to make him expendable and could elevate JD as a 3rd PG at that point.

Not sure who represents JD but this could be BOS doing him a favor.

If Gant is accurate in his assertion, this was the only way this could go. Could still sign 2-way. On the other hand, if the team REALLY wants to cater to Peterson's development, not bringing JD back gets him more floor general plays.

C'mon now. This is totally disingenuous,. JD Has only played in garbage time. His stats are meaningless.

Peterson is not a floor general. He's a wing.
They're both long shots to ever contribute something meaningful at the NBA level.

He's actually right. You have to be *really* good to play EuroLeague. There's not many guys age 21 or under who get consistent EuroLeague mins.
It's pretty legit stuff.

True. But, Peterson was bringing the ball up, when JD Davison and DJ Steward were both Injured.
He's got some versatility in him. And shoots the three, near 40%.

Maybe Cs are trying to convert Drew into a PG.

Looks like time for a new Avatar. Maybe I should go back to the OG, Tony Allen. At least he stuck around for a few years.

It's pretty legit stuff.
JD is definitely good enough to be on a Euroleague roster. Depends on the team in terms of him getting consistent minutes, but he certainly can get himself a contract and play. Teenagers play in the Euroleage (really good ones in fairness) as do guys who are over the hill (again really good ones relatively speaking).
It is absolutely a really high standard. JD's style might not translate that well. It's slower, there's less transition buckets, it's more physical play. You're not going to be able to score in the paint the same way you can in the US, which is why craft guys like Shane Larkin and Mike James who thrive in the pick and roll are studs over there despite not being rotation players in the NBA. So to your point, JD might not be able to go over there and all of a sudden be a starter, but I think he's got the talent to play in that league.
Going to Euroleague games are a blast though. Atmosphere is really different than NBA games. It's not as high flying as the NBA, but it's still a lot of fun.

JD is a free agent. He can look around for an nba deal, or, he can go back to Boston in a 2 way.
If you think about it. He would be a college senior right now.
I think he is an nba talent. They just have a roster crunch and will sign him next year if need be.
