Re: Capture The Flagg
I think that Cooper is a phenomenal talent, obviously.
With the flattened lottery odds, it's not a sure thing that we luck into the #1 pick. And any team who gets the chance to select him would be foolish to trade down, even if we sweetened with our other 2025 picks.
Even if we don't get the overall #1, there are probably 6 players in the 2025 draft better than Risacher. This is the right time to tank, and I'm glad the Nets have positioned themselves to do so.

Re: Capture The Flagg
This draft class really has me excited, I don't even think it's a lock for Flagg to go #1... Also I prefer "Failing for Flagg" over "Capture the Flagg" but to each their own

Re: Capture The Flagg
what a great draft to be able to have 4 picks, including our own.
I do hope the Nets finally get lucky here and get the kid they want, though. To those who've been around long enough, remember sucking in 2009-10 to only wind up with the 3 pick? Let's hope the Nets have lady luck on their side.

very much so. if marks had been GM i'd like to think he would have at least picked PG3 or Cousins over Favors and it wouldn't have stung as badly.
Everyone loves Flagg right now out of Bailey, Traore, Harper, Edgecomb, etc. hopefully Marks has a few good options.

Re: Capture The Flagg
I believe this season is the right one for the Nets to tank. But what do you do about Ben Simmons? I believe, despite his injury history, he is going to come out guns blazing and play very well this season. His motivation is he wants another large NBA contract. If anyone can help the Nets win more games than they should and knock them out of the top of the lottery selection it will be Ben Simmons. If he is going to be traded the Nets can't wait too long to pull that trigger. The question is what kind of value would they expect/accept in return for him ?
You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.

Yeah I’d like Ben gone asap so there isn’t even the slightest chance he has has a renaissance and adds a bunch of pointless wins. Don’t care the value as long as he doesn’t cost picks to jettison.

They can just waive him if they want too right?

Yes they could buy out Ben's contract if he's making us too good, although that would be an extreme step to take.
Really through, I wouldn't worry. He could unsocial l individually play great and be as healthy as he's ever been, and it still wouldn't yield wins for us IMO. He is such a bad spacing fit with Nic and Day'Ron, any time either C and Simmons share the floor, we lose those minutes. It's a built-in tank. My only problem with this is, we're not going to be able to build any useful habits for the youngsters. I'm all for the direction, ESPECIALLY with the chance to get Flagg. But it's a lost season for team development.

Bailey and Traore look almost as exciting as Flagg. The lottery really makes things wonky now, even if you are the worst team which is always statistically unlikely, but I trust Marks. They obviously knew how loaded this upcoming draft was and maximized their picks.
5 in the top 35 is going to give them a lot of options, and unless someone pays their cost before the deadline it could be helpful also having a piece like CamJ to deal. Even Claxton could be an important trade asset if they want to try to go from say #9 to #3. I could see a team doing something like that.
Also in-season kind of interesting that with CamJ, they have an attractive piece they can set a higher price on, but know they also have a very comparable DFS to trade when the offers inevitably come in lower than they want. I don't really see them getting a first for DFS but I guess you never know. Maybe they could get an interesting recent first who is buried on a bench somewhere at the deadline like JHS.

Re: Capture The Flagg
So much can happen over the next 9 months. I would not be surprised if Flagg is not the number one pick. Rutgers basketball is going to be very exciting this upcoming season with both Bailey and Harper. With some scouts saying they will both be lottery picks. Some even proclaiming that Harper will picked before Flagg.

I can see a world where Harper goes between 2-7 and winds up the best player from this draft.
