Prior to Free Agency : pulse on expectation for next season
A lot can change especially prior to Free Agency
But quickly as things stand . What are our expectations for next season
I care mostly about the east.
Contender :
Boston, NYK, Philly, Milwaukee
Solid teams :
Orlando, Cleveland , Indiana, Miami
Play in teams somewhat rebuilding
Toronto , Chicago, Atlanta
Rebuilding :
Brooklyn, Washington , Charlotte, Detroit
//
I expect we will win around 35 wins up to 41
I think Brooklyn, Washington are definitely worse than us
I am curious if Detroit finally start winning or still stuck in perpetual losing streak
I wonder if Charlotte with Miller, Ball , Salaun can finally shows some improvement
I would like is to get a top 10 pick but it will be close with Chicago, Atlanta somewhat rebuilding and Brooklyn in a massive rebuild mode

Re: Prior to Free Agency : pulse on expectation for next season
Is a top-10 pick even gonna amount to more than a role player?
I really hope we can crack top-5.

But technically it’s very possible we do the play in
West should be more competitive
But in the East technically there is chance IMO to even make the playoff .
Miami being the logical 8th seed
Next draft is suppose to be very good .
I think the hope with a top10 pick is to be more than a role player . I think the hope is definitely a starter caliber player

Hierarchy to me has always been:

2) Star
3) Fringe all-star (i.e. Jrue Holiday)
4) Role player
You need 1 superstar and 1 star to win an NBA title.

Yes. Next year's draft is absolutely stacked. Get familiar with it.

They’re closer to being a 12 seed than a 6 seed. They need another impactful starter to make a difference

Yeah I think this make sense!
This would give us pick 11 or 12 I think if I was a betting man (I am not )
Normally being .500 bring you at pick 12 or 13
I expect us to be just under .500 but a significant 10-15 more wins compare to last season .

Re: Prior to Free Agency : pulse on expectation for next season
I think Atlanta trades Young and starts a new era so it's basically us and Chicago fighting for 9th and potentially 8th if everything goes right

Agree although I wonder about Charlotte
If my memory serve me well Lamelo Ball was injured last season for a long period
I expect them to be better this year . Like the Raptors
The question is by how much

Re: Prior to Free Agency : pulse on expectation for next season
Detroit should be better next year with proper coaching. On paper Cade/Ivey/Duren/Ausur Thompson isn't that bad. They just need to add some perimeter shooting and they should have enough talent to at least win 30 games.

Unless the Hawks trade Trae to the Spurs for their picks back I don't see what incentive they have to trade Young now that Dejounte is gone.

Re: Prior to Free Agency : pulse on expectation for next season
You forgot to put the Conference Champions so I had to choose 12th.
I think we will see a mild tank in action. We will probably give ourselves a 7-10% chance at the top seeds while developing our guys.

When's the last time a draft had all 10 players in the top 10 become stars?
The reality is, we need a top-3 pick.

Re: Prior to Free Agency : pulse on expectation for next season
We're going to be in the play in. There's a few signs that indicate the team will be better.
- Barnes will continue to improve on offense and be more assertive.
- New York sucks at developing talent and Barrett and IQ played better here, they'll be even better with a full training camp.
- Dick in the 2nd half of the season was better than GTJ, and he'll likely be better next season. The ability to move the ball on offense, fill gaps, cut, not gamble on defense, and more.
- The bench last year consisted of weak defenders. Now we will have a strong perimeter defense with Agbaji, Shead, Mitchell, Mogbo, and Walter.
How do we get better from a mere play in team?
We lack big man talent. A talented seven footer that can shoot and make open threes with ease and protect the rim, provide lane intimidation, deter drives, and provide rebounding. This is the primary talent we need to put next to Scottie to put together a great defense.

Re: Prior to Free Agency : pulse on expectation for next season
We not in the playoffs and we could possibly be in the mix for a play in for what spot but i have my doubts in that as well....I think Yak/Brown both get dealt sometimes in the offseason or the trade deadline and we go for the lottery balls....
Hawks seem to be blowing it up but its remained to be seen if they move Trae....They might just get off DeJounte knowing it was a mistake to pair him and Trae together and go for the playins this season...But who really knows...They still have more talent than us overall atm...
Nets/Wizards/Pistons all grouped together Hornets/Raptors/Hawks/Bulls all in the same category and you can't really rank who will be better or worse just yet....But we will def be a lottery team next year when its all said and done...

Damn the bottom half of the East is looking really awful
we might get into the play-in by default looking at the other teams yikes

2025 draft should be strong.
Meanwhile, we got better luck in drafting older prospect with a lower pick. The higher pick getting a BPA usually ended up being fringe or role player (eg. Poeltl).
