Re: Shams: Patrick Williams to sign 5/90 deal
I don't dislike the deal unless there's something like player-option on the last year of the deal.
Salary cap has significantly incresed over the years. I know Pat has shown none-to-little positive signs to be an all-star but at least the team could use his size and defense and 3pt shooting.

I know he’s young. Maybe he’ll get better. But at 10 ppg and 4 rpg his numbers are comparable to guys like Obi Toppin, Grant Williams, and Kelly Olynyk who are making closer to $13m/year. I’ve never seen a single thing from him suggesting he will ever be any better than that and find him endlessly frustrating. Maybe we get rid of DDR/Vuc/Lavine and his numbers benefit by virtue of “someone has to score” but I think he’s a bum.

If this is a declining deal it's great for us since we're gonna be bad this year intentionally, if it's a regular 5 or 8% increases deal it's still fine, but not as good.
Either way it signals to me that Pat is who he is and any increase in production will be due to not having DeMar around to bail everyone out.

Those guys signed their deals in previous offseasons, so their deals need to be analyzed relative to the cap dynamics of that time.
All of those guys are either older, worse defenders, or worse shooters than Pat, and usually a combination of those three.
Pat's deal his first two years is a little rich, but it's not out of line with a guy his age and role.

A lot of money for someone who doesn't really do anything and only shows flashes about once a month. Could easily be another Cristiano Felício.

Huh. He definitely took an injury discount but not to the extent that I’d have guessed.
Hope we get optimistic intel about his rehab soon. The recent stuff is pretty worrying.

Slight overpay of course, but if (and this is a big if) P Will takes a big step forward then this will be a good value contract. We’ll see if he’s got that dog in him to take it to another level.
AKME got to go

Also the non comments about his recovery from that injury make this deal concerning. I would have let him go get an offer sheet on the market. Why do they always bid against themselves?
I could actually see a team willing to take a swing at Pat in RFA. The FA pool is drying up real quick, and his player archetype is valuable on most teams. And Coby probably gets at least 100 mil if he were a FA this year, so I think that point is moot. This deal doesn't feel like a reach in the way Vuc and Zach's deal did.
But that's exactly my point. Coby is more valuable and he's already outplayed that contract in the first year of it. And the reason he signed for that was because he had been underwhelming the year prior. So pat, once again having an unhealthy season, while being underwhelming to boot, is not worth (imo) 90 mil. I hope he stays healthy and actually shows something or else this is gonna be another contract everyone complains about.

Well I'm assuming AK isn't a total moron and realizes that his 2025 draft pick is the best shot of saving his job and turning the franchise around.

I'd rather see what he can do without Demar and Zach on the Bulls than another team. Billy better play him 32+ min for the first time in his career and hopefully Giddey and Coby help feed him. This is a good young core to add a 2025 pick to. Jaden McDaniels signed a 5 yr/$131 million contract for comparison with almost identical stats.

That's a huge assumption to make... no offence.

Not a major overpay, and so as long as he doesn't become completely unplayable then the contract becomes more tradeable as time passes if the right opportunity comes along.
One thing that does make me slightly hopeful is that with giddey running the offense, williams might get more catch and shoot opportunities. That might help williams be less complacent since he won't be standing in the corner waiting for the pass that won't come from derozan.

What are people talking about? This is a more than fair deal for a 22 year old who is at the very least a capable 3 and D guy for a team that desperately needs both 3 and D. Williams hasn't shot under 39% for 3.

Looks like some think Felicio could defend AND shoot the 3s with good-to-great efficiency!

Re: Shams: Patrick Williams to sign 5/90 deal
This was surprising that they reached a deal before FA. I thought for sure Patrick would have to get another deal and Bulls would match.
Maybe Bulls were worried he would get a higher offer and decided to just sign him now.
Nonetheless the expected happened earlier rather than later. Based on his play he definitely got overpaid but he’s had flashes and has a ton of potential. Front office obviously still believes in him. That dude better earn that contract.

To be clear he does have a player-option on the last year according to Jamal Collier.
This FO never let me down (sarcasm) LMFAO. I still don't dislike the deal though.

Re: Shams: Patrick Williams to sign 5/90 deal
I thought 15 would've been the most fair value for both. So in my book this is an overpay by 3 million per year. But that 3 million can end up being not much if Pat makes a significant jump next season. At least it's south of 20 million per year which is a gross overpay for Pat considering his slow growth.
DeMar is certainly on the way out. We can't be paying everybody.
So far it's Ayo, Coby, Pat, Giddey, Buzelis core. We have remaining 80% of cap available for rebuilding efforts.
