I think Orlandos biggest advantage is their depth/ability to make other moves.

Philly have 3 players under contract

After maxing George and Maxey they have about $14M + $8M exception to fill 9 spots.

But no real assets outside of that to make any significant moves.

Orlando will have around $3M + $8M exception to fill 3 spots

However a boat load of future assets to do with as they please.

Paul George gains about $9M more signing with Orlando due to state taxes.

That’s not even accounting for roster age/durability and longterm potential which I think Orlando favors Philly as well.

The newest wiretap makes it seem he is looking at 76ers, not us. The article, at least, makes us look like an afterthought.

Orlando must spend 38M. If Caldwell-Pope gets 22M and Hartenstein 20M, then, even though below 141M, this takes Orlando to above salary floor. Add 8M for M-Wagner, then that's an off-season.

Suggs/Black
Caldwell-Pope/Anthony/Howard
F-Wagner/da Silva/Houstan
Banchero/Isaac
Hartenstein/Carter/M-Wagner

The team then adds two LLE vets at PG and PF, and management calls it a day.

I'm not saying I want this, but it is believable.

Ugh getting Paul George means this FO has to put together a roster that can win it all by 2026. Seriously how can any of us believe they are capable of doing this? They haven’t been shamming for 7-8 years just waiting for PG13 to come along so that they could finally go to work.

Many of us believe that PG plus internal development will be enough. Outside of some smaller signings that round out the roster that is obviously what the plan would be.

Core 4: Suggs, PG, Franz, Paolo
Key Depth: AB, Jett, da Silva, Isaac

Outside of PG and Isaac, we are banking on those other 6 improving and continuing their upward trajectory.

Gotta take the shot at getting PG. I honestly didn't think we would be this close so I kinda pushed that thought to the side and tried my best to justify it with the he's too old for our timeline thought process. But still it PG.

Other thing about it is if PG doesn't choose Orlando we aren't completely stuck in the boat of only being able to sign guys like Tyus and IHart. We're still well under the cap and could use our cap space to absorb bigger contracts for guys like Ingram and DLO who are rumoured to be on the trade block. I know LA really wants cap space to add to LeBron and AD. And they have bronny to run point now making DLo expendable lol.

They can’t and won’t and winning a championship by 2026 isn’t and shouldn’t be the vision.

they shouldnt have a vision of winning a championship in 2 years? wouldn't want you leading my organization if that defeatist talk is what you believe. they just went to the playoffs and are young and growing. now reason you can try and catch some lightning.

I was responding to the idea that they can put together a championship roster in two seasons.

Paul George is a bridge move to bigger things.

Realistically, Boston isn’t going away in two years and New York has positioned themselves nicely.

They can’t afford to wait around for PG to make his decision and potentially lose out on a KCP/Hartenstein combo.

Hartenstein is not as good of a bench player as Mo, if we cut Mo and miss out on PG and Mo signs elseware we will be kicking ourselves for it.

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

Even if we don’t get PG, the fact that we cleared cap space to make a max offer and he’s meeting with us does wonders for perception. It shows we’re serious and ready to contend. I was afraid we wouldn’t even try.

We also shouldn't take PG out to Five Guys and mini golf like we did Jabari Smith when we already knew we were taking Paolo.

Gotta do it up and make it Boujee, go to Del Frisco's.

Moe is not signing elsewhere. You don't have to worry about that.

I thought I read somewhere that they'd be meeting in California.

One thing to appreciate about this is that we've taken the most alpha posture available. Weltman went from having a reputation as a shrewd but go-with-the-flow executive to now kicking down the door and taking a seat at the big boys table.

The signal is that he is going to maximize this pre-extension cap space. If you ever had any concerns about how aggressively he'd pursue maximizing this rebuild, those should be put to rest.
