The CBA is so byzantine that not even beat writers understand it enough to write what each move definitively means. Opting in, opting out, qualifying offers, options, exceptions, clauses, varying situations, extensions, future considerations, spending capability and more, make everything foggy.

There's a reason for the lack of analysis on these moves from the writers. They don't know either.

With no one able to fully understand or explain, I come back to what Brad Stevens has recently said- they want to give themselves an opportunity to run it back with the same team, and for the moment assume that's what all these preliminary moves allow for.

Yeah I think there are two classes of journos on this. The big group that kind of gets the gist to varying degrees but not all the details by any means.

Then there are the few cap journos like Smitty who’s job it is to know all the rules and they are pretty good at it.
