They're willing to pay Quickley $175M/5, but traded Anunoby to avoid having to pay him $212M/5?
Raptors are wondering why they couldn't get a Bridges type haul after the fact of trading OG and Siakam. It's actually pretty insane what's been happening in the trade/contract market over the last 6 months. I can't assess the value for a lot of things unless we assume everyone is just dumb and overpaying.
I think how teams feel about handing a guy a max deal has a lot to do with that player's trade value. If you really don't want to do bring the player back on a max, he's got rental trade value for all but the truly desperate teams. You need to be able to just let that guy walk if things don't work out as hoped, and depending on your cap situation, that could mean having no means of replacing him.
You kind of see that with Ingram. He's like plan C for the Sixers and the break-glass-in-case-of-emergency option for the Warriors. The Warriors make the most sense to me, because if it doesn't work, they'd benefit from having $36M drop off the books next summer and admitting it's over (when Dray and Curry still have some trade value left).
The Cavs and Sixers need to worry about a situation where Maxey and Mobley are off of their rookie deals and they can't use the cap space anyway.
