Can we stop saying champion like he's Jayson Tatum? He was the 5th most important starter on that Denver team. I like his intangibles, but he didn't lift anyone to a title.

But i told no lies. Lol he literally is/was a champion starting 2 guard for both LAL and DEN. Lol

I'd say the bigger issue was lack of playmaking in our backcourt and we most needed a real PG to take some of the burden off of Paolo and Franz. I'd put 3pt shooting as a significant issue but only the second biggest and one that would be partly fixed by solving the first problem. KCP doesn't do anything to fix that.

Yes we lack playmaking but the 3pt shooting was more glaring during games.

Orlando’s defense is going to be crazy. KCP brings that.

Defense wasn’t our issue though.

I like KCP and the contract is fine, but I just don't see how this makes us anything other than just slightly better. And likely blocks all the other options that could have made us much better. Which means we will be going into next season fighting for the 5 seed again.

One ripple effect of this signing which might help us - Denver just lost a starter and we own their FRP next season. Maybe the move costs them some games and we get a better pick from it?

WePark play that game at Cracker Barrel with the golf tees, not 4-D chess.

I don't think the "final form" Magic will look like this obviously, but throughout the next few years, I think with having picks to trade and young guys who may or may not have a future here + filler salary, we aren't blocked from any future moves.

The biggest thing about this offseason is not losing ground. It's obvious teams with vets + experience + more stars will be better, but we're right in that next group.

Any move that weakens DEN makes our pick look great.

They also have Murray and MPJ which are for me, are leas reliable than WCJr in games played.

That DEN 25 pick might not just be asweetener to move up but a central star-trade after all esp with the names im seeing in the 25 draft

Not sure the goal should be making sure we are still in line for the 5th seed as teams like Boston and Philly pull further out ahead of us.

I like that the Magic are all in defensively and unwilling to compromise that side. It will pay off in the end.

Magic are also all in on Paolo/Franz doing the creating. I don’t have major confidence but we’ll see how it goes.

Teams like NYK, BOS that are guard/wing heavy offensively makes us need more defenders. What luck Suggs and KCP ( at 6'5) have the height for it.

I mean, it's just the truth of our roster, being 2-3 years from a complete tear down with the Vuc/Fournier/AG trades. We have a team full of 22-23 year olds and younger with our best players still years away from their prime. The veteran teams with stars that are in their mid to late 20s or 30s should probably be in a better contending position.

As long as we continue to set ourselves up to be in good position moving forward, that's all I care about.

Just now getting caught up here.

So depending on how the Magic structured this KCP contract they either have $30M, $28M or $26M left in cap space.

If it's an ascending 20-22-24, then they have $30M left.

If it's a flat 22-22-22, then they have $28M left.

If it's a descending 24-22-20, they have $26M left.

What makes them better options than KCP. The raw numbers? Yes... Definitely not the sexiest numbers but he will upgrade in every way. Played on 2 different champion teams in the last 5 years. Can shoot.... Can drive ... Can play make.... Can run the PnR.... And defend at a high level. He's not gonna be burner of an iso scorer ... But we will have enough ball handling still as our players grow.

Magic with Harris starting won over 70% of their games. I am not really surprised with the direction they chose here.

Love it.

KCP gets us past Cleveland last year. Probably doesn't move the needle much against Boston. But that's where Paolo/Franz/Suggs development should kick in.

Some of y'all underselling this pickup.

He's not a minor upgrade over Gary Harris. KCP is legit better than him at everything AND he has championship experience.

He's the ideal option in this FA market and the deal is very reasonable.

5/5 move by WePark.

To say this doesn't help our offence is such a smooth brain take. Just because he doesnt average 20ppg doesnt mean he wont have a huge impact on the scoring. In fact, what he brings is more valuable, which is spacing, driving off closeouts, being a willing passer, etc. We dont need some hero to come in here and try and score a lot and take the ball out of Paolo and Franz's hands, we need players who open up the game for them. Just look at the KCP on/off stats in the playoffs and you will understand what he can do for a team on offence.
