Derrick Jones Jr.'s decision to change agents this week has complicated the hopes of the Dallas Mavericks of re-signing him this offseason. Jones signed with Rich Paul of Klutch Sports as his new agent. There is a 15-day wait period per NBPA guidelines after an agent change.
The Mavericks have subsequently agreed to sign Naji Marshall using a significant portion of the midlevel exception. The Mavericks are also pursuing a sign-and-trade agreement with the Golden State Warriors for Klay Thompson.
Jones is now considered unlikely to be retained by the Mavericks.
