Who is a better deal?

Surely Valanciunas would have signed with us over the Wizards

Depends on your team

Valanciunas cant switch or pick up anywhere on the perimeter so yeah hes not very valuable

I did not realize Poeltl has a player option too lmao, Masai can't help himself man.

I still like Poeltl, Valanciunus is trending towards becoming a full blown Boban-esque situational big on any team serious about winning. Poeltl is a better defender and could see him being a regular, lower minute starter on a contender.

Our defense already struggles to get stops. You start Jonas over Poeltl, and we'd have one of the worst defenses in franchise history. If you want to tank, this is the move to make.

No contender with the Mle matched that offer, including his former team who need a C That's pretty telling.

For a bad team like Was who need some vets, it's a good deal for them.

Val can actually shoot free throws and is an equal rebounder...

Neither guy can really be in the game during crunch time due to their deficiencies... Poeltl can't hit a ft to save his life but is a decent defender... Val can hit a free throw but is a turnstyle on D...

Tough call they are both flawed but since JV only makes 10m a year he would be a good fit as a 8th man whereas Poeltl gets paid like a starter but he's better suited as a 6th 7th man as you cant play him end of games

Poeltl is younger and better player at the stage. Feel like both deals are fair.

In the NBA, at the end of the day , quality Trump quantity

I think JV is a good deal but Poeltl is a better player

Roster of the Raptors with and without him speak for itself

Poeltl is younger and with a flat contract

In an ideal world his AAV would be 10%-15% cheaper but at the end of the day the difference does not move the needle .

But for Washington that is rebuilding , it’s a good stop gap acquisition IMO

We really need to stop giving out player options like candy.

I wouldn't be surprised if the IQ deal has a player option.

It’s Poeltl.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

I was looking at it more JV vs Olynyk. Who would we rather have as our backup for next year on their current deals.

JV should be more at 12-15 mil and Poeltl is probably a fair contract

Have people watched JV recently? He’s quite bad on defense now. He got paid what he did because he’s a bottom 5 starting C (who is probably better suited coming off the bench). Poeltl is clearly a better player and would be more desirable to other teams. If the Wiz ever trade JV I bet they get a 2nd at best.

For us neither is a good option....We need a stretch Big who can shoot 3s and protect the rim....Im sure some contender can use Yaks skills though...But if i had to pick a big id pick Yak...But neither fit our team.

JV is a solid backup C. I think Poeltl could start on a legit team depending on the roster. You could argue he's also a backup C, but I doubt he's completely engaged with this squad.

Yak is much better than JV. He's also younger. There is a reason no team wants JV. Big, lumbering centers haven't been valuable for at least a decade now.
