I wonder why they only did one year? We have his Bird Rights.
Though, I do notice that the Cap Hit is just under $2.1M, and Kornet is getting $2.8M, due to years of service.

Roster spots are limited resources going forward!
Kornet had a great RS and then a kind of dodgy playoffs. One year vet min is a good outcome for now IMO.

Maybe they said "Luke, sign this deal and when you retire we'll have them kick Drew out so you and Scal can do Celtic games for the next 30 years"

Ahh. So it is indeed a league-subsidized vet min deal?

i want to know why he stopped playing like this. he wouldn't be signing for the minimum if he could at least be a threat from 3 pt range instead of clogging up the paint on offense. this is the version of luke we need to see next season. shoot 2-3 3's per game to keep the defense honest while KP is out

Perhaps Luke's career .241 from 3 while with the C's led them to put his distance launching on pause last year. Will he make it a priority to bring it back better?

In general, I prefer him not taking too many of those since it takes away from two of his main strengths -- offensive rebounding/putbacks and finishing lobs. But he should be taking the corner threes like Tillman. Wouldn't want him to pick and pop ATB3s like Horford and KP.

Over 4 years in Boston, .259 of his 3 attempts have been from the corner--and he has hit them for a sizzling .143.

On very low volume? He should be working on it. He has a decent stroke. Above point remains. Don't want him veering off the paint/baseline often on offense.

A guy who is about to turn 29 and is a 10th man typically is only gonna get a 1 year deal, I would think. Plus, if we resign Tillman, there's a chance that Kornet could end up being the 5th big on the depth chart, after KP returns..

The team probably just wants 1 year for flexibility purposes. I'm sure Luke would prefer more years for security/peace of mind reasons but he signed it anyways.. clearly the guy loves being on the Celtics and didn't want to drag the negotiations on for such a small deal.

Glad to have him back!

Queta is younger with more upside, so he got the longer term deal..

In Pags' appearance on UnAnchored podcast, he mentions Luke being the funniest guy on the team. He swears he's like David Letterman and that his teammates love him. Right after the Cs won the championship, Pags got a call from Horford telling him to bring Kornet back on the team.

So Luke’s contract is only for a year because that’s how many years Al’s contract has left too then. As Al’s remaining years go so do Luke’s.

What Al doesn’t know when he made that call is Luke already called Pags telling him not to trade Al next year and how he doesn’t want to lose the biggest fan of his antics/comedy.

Al's moving into Bill Russell territory here: He's now both an assistant coach AND assistant GM while STILL a player.

Kornet came into the NBA as a 3 point shooting big man. He shot over 35% in his first two seasons. Then he had a bad shooting year in Chicago, weaned things down to the point of giving it up altogether. This certainly helped him focus on his overall game. But if we're going to try to develop Tillman's 3 pointer and tell Anton Watson to "let it fly" why on earth isn't Kornet shooting any? He's the best shooter of the bunch.
