This is our current cap sheet without Oubre's Room Exception and Gordon's minimum contract because we can sign them after Maxey's max deal.

I'd love to see confirmation that the full room exception can be used and still go over the 1st apron. I have seen it called the Room MLE on the (unofficial) CBA FAQ site, and I've seen the phrase "using more than the tax MLE" as triggering the hard cap.

So are we trading Paul Reed for a PF?

Any chance we could throw all our picks and Reed for Jabari Smith Jr? He’s got 2 years left, $9MM cap hit this year.

I have a feeling Ricky COuncil will have a bigger role this year. What is his true position? SF or PF?

Hoping Melton comes back on a 1 year prove it deal.

C - Embiid
F - George
F - Oubre
G - Melton
G - Maxey

^ That might be the best 5-man plus minus lineup in the NBA next year.

Thank god we didn’t listen to the advice to “throw all our picks” for anyone.

Based on his dimensions (6'5" 208 pounds with a 6'9" wingspan), we would want Council playing about 20% of his minutes at SG, 70% of his minutes at SF, and 10% of his minutes at PF.

He lacks the length to play meaningful minutes at PF. He's going to have to learn how to shoot to get on the court at any position, though. See KJ Martin's similar issues.

Basically we replaced:

Tobias -> PG13
BBPaul -> Drummond
Hield -> Gordon

Now we need to replace Lowry and Batum using 9M of cap space and a min vet contract.

time to be that guy

Morey really didn't do anything out of his wheelhouse lol. He chased the star, and resigned his old players.

but that is probably the best move he had lol.

Got to finish the job and get a PF or two tho

I am a huge fan of giving Jalen smith a go, I feel like he could bet on himself in a big roster hole and show out to get paid next year, don’t think he gets much this year. X Tillman I’d be willing to give a try too, if JSmirh goes elsewhere

Could still maybe sign Anderson or trade Reed plus the fake OKC 1st for DFS.

Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Grimes/Edgecombe/Gordon
Oubre/Edwards
George/Watford/Barlow

Paul George played 86% of his minutes at PF last year. He IS our PF.

I think what you'll see is us target some other veteran big wings to log backup PF minutes for the vet minimum. Batum, Ingles, Anderson, etc. Maybe Lamar Stevens for his defense.

Remove Oubre from the equation: he will be our last signing.

BBPaul +2.3M in cap space = at least 11M salary incoming
Then you sign Maxey (35) and Oubre (8) and then you're hardcapped at the first apron with about 172M in salaries.

But I'm not sure if my math is right LOL

Kinda long, so I'll spoiler it:

Spoiler:
Take out Maxey, Reed, and the Incomplete Roster amounts from his total salary amount:

145.8 - 13.0 - 7.7 - 3.5 = 121.6

Now add back Maxey's max:

121.6 + 35.1 = 156.7

That's for 8 players. Minimum roster size is 14, so let's add 5 minimum contracts before the final larger one:

156.7 + 5*2.1 = 167.2

Now subtract that from the first apron:

178.1 - 167.2 = 10.9

Now, the numbers aren't perfectly precise, but it gives a pretty good sense of things. I'm not sure if the Sixers would be willing to go into the season with only 14 contracts and no space to work with. If so, then an $11M guy might be possible while keeping McCain. At that point, the exact numbers start to matter.

I can see something like this if they don't want to exceed the first apron

Image
with a max vet contract to use at the trade deadline for a prized buyout.

Find a way for Jalen Smith with that $11 mil and this is a home run off-season.

Fill in the vet mins with Dario, Haywood (just for regular season depth).

Jalen Smith couldn't even crack the Pacers postseason rotation. And we don't really need another C after signing Drummond and drafting Bona and still technically having Reed on the roster. Would be a waste of resources.
