Cam Johnson Strategy
After the main twin left for our crosstown rival, the question in my head was: what do we do with Cam J?
He's a great 3pt shooter and a pretty good defender when he's the 4th option on the court. However, I think we've seen enough to know that his efficiency and comfort level on both ends diminish in a more featured role.
From the draft rumor mill, it seems lots of teams had middling offers ready for him. I don't blame Sean Marks for not jumping at those deals, however I don't see Cam J as the type to raise his value as the #2 option.
Marks is good at slow playing his hand to ensure maximum value return in trades. Let's hope a more enticing deal lands in our lap. We just might have to wait for it.

Re: Cam Johnson Strategy
I think your last sentence is likely where this goes - Marks slow playing his hand and eventually extracting value. Be it good pick/picks or a good young player he likes buried on someone's depth chart.
If royce oneale is getting 44m, cam's remaining 68m is in fact a good value.
would imagine once teams strike out on FA targets and some dust settles there will be a pretty good market for CamJ but knowing how Marks tends to be picky i'd guess it's better than 50% he doesn't get traded this offseason and goes into the regular season a net.

I really hope he's gone because his value will diminish even more this year. I hope Marks isn't over valuing him because he's just not that good and he won't net us that much value.

I believe that's what people were saying when it was rumored that Marks turned down 4 & 5 pick offers for Mikal.

yeah im not sure cam's value goes backwards by much. there's also a chance with more of a role he scores a little more or stays a little healthier.
i mean right now it's just bridges gone, and bridges wasnt exactly jason kidd bringing his teammates to a new level. a full season with schroder > dinwiddie may make more of a difference for camj than bridges ' departing gravity.

There is no rush to trade him. Teams will get more desperate closer to the deadline.

He’ll be on the team and then the Nets will trade him at the deadline. I can see DFS being on the team as well to start the season.

Re: Cam Johnson Strategy
I wouldn't want Cam J to be in the lineup come opening night. I'm worried he might get injured again and his value plummets.
I was OK holding on to Bridges as he's an ironman, but Cam J is a walking injury waiting to happen...

Re: Cam Johnson Strategy
I also think that a deadline trade is the most likely scenario.
Cam Johnson is the 67TH highest paid player in the NBA. I think we would all agree that he is not a top 100 player in the league. Realistically he is 125 to 150 range. Nice guy and everything, but you could fill Yankee stadium with nice guys. Maybe in an extended roll he can increase his value.

Re: Cam Johnson Strategy
I actually would like to see them deal DFS first. Imagine they get 2 1sts for him, and then say "we want more for Cam".
I think Cam is a guy that if they go into the season with him, it wouldn't be the worst thing. Let him play and ball out to see if someone gets desperate enough to make a sizeable offer.

totally different. Bridges always had a market and good value around the league especially with his contract, he was one of the most coveted guys since we got him. Grizz tried to get him for 4 picks the same time we got him, then the Rockets offer and now Knicks. And thats all we heard so it was inevitable Bridges was going to net us a really good return.
Cam not so much, nobody even knows what his value is right now and ppl were saying he was overpaid last year. he's going to be even worse this year with a bigger load to handle and he's not that guy. I expect his efficiency to plummet. if we can even get ONE pick for him we need to jump on it but we haven't even heard a rumor of any team willing to trade a first for him.

Re: Cam Johnson Strategy
KCP at age 31 just got the same contract Cam has remaining. CamJ should have pretty decent positive value and if he doesn't keep him. Pretty simple.

Whomever is competing for a title and loses out on Klay + PG13 is going to go after Cam hard. Be ready.

Warriors a pretty good fit if the cap maneuvering can work. draft pick + moody + filler. may be a better fit for DFS just bc of their salaries.

Magic another one maybe. They have a bunch of young guards (suggs, black, anthony) and yet they also keep signing veterans (KCP, Harris). Franz and Banchero can also handle the ball. Don't really have any pure spot up 3/d.
Cam would be a pretty big upgrade on Ingles.

Re: Cam Johnson Strategy
With Johnson and Bridges essentially playing the same position, Cam might look better on the court with Bridges gone.
Marks is right to be patient and get the best deal he can.

I hope CamJ and DFS are gone before season starts
If they here and building their value means we get more Ws , and we need more Ls
If they here and they suck , they loosing value
Trade them ASAP

if we've learned anything from marks history, trade them asap is the last thing we want. let the man take his time and get the deal he wants like KD/Bridges, not be forced into deals like both Harden deals.
