C: Chet

or

2G; Dort
PG: Caruso

Rotation:
IHart/Joe/Wiggins/Wallace

Could still use another competent center/PF assuming they aren't bringing back JWill.

I think they are bringing him back. Don't think he's great but he's cheap and can still hit some shots.

I would be surprised if our offseason is not over. We added two good players and two rookies that will definitely have some playing time. I would trade Dieng but Presti is always in love with his players and probably want to give him a last shot.

Didn’t want IH, but I’m on board. I love the direction. Was worried Presti would just run it back, but the aggressiveness is awesome and I’m fired up for the season.

Wiggins and Joe deals are also awesome. Love that guys want to be here. Those deals will be great in 3 years.

I don't know how it will work out with Hartenstein but the Hayward trade worked for our offseason: able to sign a good player and decline/extend Joe and Wiggins under very good contracts

I thought Topic was a total red shirt next year with knee surgery?

Markkanen still on the block. I was hoping for a trade + reneg. & extend.

Any chance we still add him? I'm not sure how I'd feel paying the high cost without the extension.

I would say no because I don't know how we pay him for the 2025-2026 season (and beyond).

He's going to have ACL surgery after he is signed, most likely. Given the recovery time on that he might make it back around the all-star break, but most likely will just be a dead roster spot all season.

It would require moving one of Cason, Caruso, JDub, Dort, Chet or SGA. In theory, they could do Kenrich, Dieng, Cason and few FRPs, but I don't think they are going to do that. Kenrich, Dieng and Jaylin combined could only bring back a $17M contract so that leaves them $1M short for Lauri.

'25-'26 is easy as they'd still have room under the tax for a max extension. After that either he or Hartenstein would have to be traded to give Chet and JDub max extensions without entering the tax. If they were willing to go into the tax to keep them all it would become a question of how long they keep them all together after SGA's next contract.

main issue is that if u think Chet and JDub are max players (they should be) u can't afford to keep Shai, Chet, JDub and Markannen long term so u gotta think a lot before sending Dieng, Kenrich and 5-6 FRPs for two years with that core.

To be clear, we could choose to pay them under the CBA, right? You're just saying that ownership wouldn't choose to pay that much.

Yes, but also, the 2nd apron rules start getting pretty punitive for team-building. You paint yourself into a corner rapidly.

Presti mentioned in his post draft press conference that they are comfortable redshirting him the entire year after doing it with chet. Not saying we should believe anything he says but the motivation to not be forthright isn't that great in this situation.

biggest question for me is whether they sign him and have him rehab with the team. my guess is yes.

At around the 10:30 mark Sam says he'll be around the team and "involved with everything we do". Take that FWIW.

After Randle got hurt, NY started running their offense through I-Hart a bit more, using him as kind of a point center, when Brunson was covered. Lots of pick and rolls and lots of feeding him the ball to pass to a teammate. I-Hart responded. He did better than most of us expected him too.

His numbers, October-February: 25.2 min, 6.9 pts, 8.5 rebs, 2.1 assists .612 FG%

March-April: 25.5 min, 9.9 pts, 8.0 rebs, 3.7 assists, .707 FG%

He had some bad games in the playoffs, and he missed some games due to injury (many big men do) though he played all 82 games in 2022-23. There's a reason NY wanted to keep him. He stepped up for us.

He's not an all-star, but he was a nice role player. Also, having 2 centers seemed to help us a lot in the playoffs.
Go Knicks!! Go Mets!!

As for the Jets . . . just keep it entertaining.
